'tis hardly surprising, given his track record. However, if you ever wanted proof that John Adams has a deep abiding disdain for Tennessee football, here it is: he predicts a fourth consecutive 5-7 season. See John Adams: Butch Jones hasn't had enough time to change UT's losing ways » GoVolsXtra. Here's hoping that he has enough crow to choke on for a week's worth of dining at the end of the season.

Hopefully, you are correct and JA is wrong. As a prognosticator, he is following a national trend in recognizing that the recruiting bonanza Butch is bringing in is not here yet. We shall see, but I hope for a 7-5 season, as a realist.

I don't think 5-7 is out of the realm of possibility, even though I'm thinking 6-6 thanks to Vandy's penchant for rape. We need to get real - this team is not good.
I don't think Adams has total disdain for UT, but he does for Fulmer. He covered up all of Lane's practice shenanigans; we learned from ESPN (not the Sentinel) about him showing past Southern Compton players; the whole USC chanting crap, etc. I don't trust Adams one bit after that, but don't slam him for predicting 5-7. Just keep it real, write this year off, and hope for better next year.

I stopped reading John Adams articles a long time ago. I suggest a boycott. Don't even click on his online articles. Maybe KNS will get the message. I do not want him to be a homer, but I have grown tired of his negativity.

He makes some very good points. This schedule is brutal, just like last season. Will the Vols keep fighting come Nov. or will they throw in the towel like last year? If they don't, 7-5 is possible. If they do, another 5-7 season looms.

5-7 is very, very possible. For the love of Zeus, please temper expectations. No one wants to see 5-7, but let's acknowledge that it isn't outside the realm of possibility. Show a little patience and let Butch do his thing and build us back up to where we all want to be.

I certainly don't expect greatness out of this team but, barring a rash of serious injuries at critical positions, forsee a 6-6 or 7-5 record. This team definitely has holes but I expect a much better conditioned, more disciplined team, one that will not quit on its coaching staff or themselves. Given his track record, I also expect Butch to pull out at least one game that, perhaps, on paper we should not win. Now, if only the KNS powers that be would give Adams and his cronies their walking papers and bring in the Chattanooga Times-Free Press staff, the local fanbase would have a sports department worth reading.

If we still had Dooley he would probably be right.

Fortunately now we have a real football coach with a resume, and not a guy with a last night.

There's realistic and then there's being incredibly negative... This guy is overly negative.. He's assuming that we don't win a single game of the games we shouldn't win. (USC, Georgia, ect).. That may be a very safe bet, and I don't expect us to win one of those either, but you do have to bear in mind that those games are at home.

Secondly, and more importantly he's assuming that we can't win 3 out of the Auburn, Mizzou, Vandy and Kentucky games to go bowling.. Kentucky is basically a given, and Vandy and Auburn are at home. Most preseason polls also have us as being better than all 4 of those teams. I see 4 wins there. Not 2.

While the war between the Negavols and sunshine Pumpers continues to rage, some are starting to realize that the truth probably lies somewhere between these two extremes. Better yet, Adams nor anyone else really has a freaking clue.

5-7 is entirely possible. Playing at Mizzou is no lock, and Auburn will probably not be as bad as some think.

We can still win 6 even if we lose those 2, but unlikely.

Hopefully BJ is good enough to beat Vandy and Aubie or Mizzou.

8-4 isn't outside the realm of posibility either. Therefore I don't have to temper anything, so Zeus can just kiss my Vol lovin' ass.:neener:

I can't really find fault with anything he said there.

It's important for us fans to remember that he and the other local media members that I've seen come out with their 5-7 and 6-6 predictions have actually seen this team practice. Most of us have not, one open practice the exception.

I'll tell you right now, this team is going to have to improve a whole lot from where they are now to have a chance to be better than 2-2 in November. Kentucky is the only sure win in that stretch.

8-4
Of course we beat Austin Peay, WK, South Alabama
in SEC play we beat Auburn, Candy, Kentucky, Missouri and South Carolina.

Not only is 5-7 likely but I would consider it a good season with our current roster. Next year better be 7-5 though.

Hold me to it oldfart. I had a vision telling me 5-7 or 6-6.
Even if the Vols are tougher and more disciplined under Jones, they likely will be 3-5 two-thirds through the season. Then, they would have to win three of their last four against Missouri, Auburn, Vanderbilt and Kentucky to qualify for a bowl.

Yep, 5-7.

Hold me to it oldfart. I had a vision telling me 5-7 or 6-6. If somehow we don't win that amount, I will miss you too. And all my fellow volunteers.

So you were fortunate enough to have a vision, but unfortunate enough that your vision is a waffler?? That blows.

Hey Cat, just want to be clear. You say we win a maximum of 5 or 6 games next season or you pull a David Copperfield??
