That would be an interesting game imo. Keep it short...no subs.

Cuonzo and Golden/McRae/Richardson or McBee/Maymon/Hall

vs

Bruce and Goins/Hopson/Tatum/Harris/Williams

Before last night I would've considered it a mismatch, but now I'm not so sure.

and yeah, Tatum bridges the two....probably Cuonzo needs him the most

Remember...this time last year, the Vols were about to beat 2 top 10 teams in a short timespan. They didn't crap the bed till much later.

I don't think it's necessary to start doing this stuff and bringing back up "last year" or "last few years", etc. It's not healthy.
I do suggest some of you chill a little. This team has a long way to go and when Golden is held to 6 pts, it's going to be really tough. Great performance last night, but that team was weak.

How many times does Mcrae shoot?, and I don't think Maymon is at Tobias' level

Harris and Williams would snag alot of rebounds but this year's team would eventually out-execute last year's team.

Let's not get ahead of ourselves after one game. If I remember correctly fans got a little over excited after the football team started 2-0

I still think, solely based on talent, last year's team is better, and it's not really close. Golden certainly looks like an upgrade from Goins (though we have three games to base that on vs an entire season for Goins), but Hopson is better than McRae, Tatum is better than McBee or Richardson, Harris is better than Maymon, and Williams is better than Hall.

Last year's team is definitely better at 4/5 positions. Again, solely based on talent and not a year's worth of results. After this season, I may think differently, but if you put last year's starters after one game against this year's starters after one game against each other, I think last year's wins.

You are correct that 4/5 of players from last year are better and more talented. What I believe is interesting to see if this can be a better team regardless of the talent gap by playing tough, smart basketball

I understand that there are tons of intangible factors that could play into the outcome of this potential scenario, but unfortunately, that is impossible to prove since they will in fact, never play each other. So, I think you have to base your answer on the assumption that all things being equal, except for talent, last year's team is better on paper (and on paper is really as far as you can take it in this hypothetical scenario.)

You don't wanna play...don't play.

You really think this is some kind of unhealthy exercise, Chief?

Cuonzo brought a team in here last year that couldn't match up talent-wise and played us to the wire.

Golden, McCrae, and Hall were all top 100 recruits; Maymon was hightly regarded too. Appears he has much more to work with than he did back in MO.

Sometimes the sum of the parts does not always equal the whole. I think the value of Golden cannot be over-emphasized. He is like the quarterback. I think if he continues to be a catalyst like yesterday, then this team can exceed expectations by quite a bit. If this is an aberration, or he gets hurt, then this team could be terrible.

That is where I am at with it, we can be a formidable basketball team.

To compare the two isn't really fair I don't think.

Who is a top 20 draft pick on this years group?

Whether people like it or not, a pissed off Scotty (ala Pitt) is still the best player we've had since Lofton. If that kid showed up, this game wouldn't be close.

It's just one of those things, because on any given night anybody can beat anybody, but I would more than put my money on last years group.

Chief. That's cute. You are the clowns that will continue to bring pearl up all the time. Have at it.

I'm a Bruce fan. I'm becoming a Cuonzo fan.

Don't know your story...other than you like to tell other people what to do.

Based off of last night, this years team would beat them by double digits

We played the equivalent of a high school team last night. If we go to Maui and show some spunk then we can crow a little. Beating up on inferior talent only helps
the win column.

Just advice man. Take it or leave it. The quicker pearl is in the background, the quicker the program can get back. If you don't want to read what I say, then don't read it.

Why would you still like an unemployed coach that brought us tons of negative attention and got himself fired? He did great things here, but he's gone. Get over it. There shouldn't be a decision on whether you support Cuonzo Martin or not.

Why would I like Pearl? LOL

Newsflash. He lied about a bbq. That doesn't cancel out the championships, the #1 ranking and the Elite 8.

I support the HELL out of Cuonzo. I was there last night...but I didn't see you, chum.

This years team has a better player at one of the most important positions on a basketball team, point guard. Because of Golden, I think this team should win.

Not sure being better at one position negates being worse at the other four. Also, take into account that Golden would be guarded by Goins. Mel might not have been good at many things offensively, but he could play some D and he is easily as strong or stronger than Trae.
