Newsweek's latest poll shows Huck surging in Iowa. Doesn't bode well for some Fred surge or Romney either. If Huck does pull off a win in Iowa, then he's set McCain up nicely in NH.

I still think he's peaking too early. What he does have going for him is the early primaries. There is less time to hit his credibility because of the primary dates moved up and the holidays keeping campaigning toned down. Right now the key to him going further is keeping his mouth shut. He's not sharp on the issues and he's made some errors on policy like Fred did. He's the man on top and will be the focus of everyone's negative campaigning. Fred and Mitt are really hitting him hard.

Watch the polls in NH. If he makes a surge there propelling him to the top then this is genuine. If he cannot surge in NH then it will show he cannot compete nationwide.

What I do find interesting is that a large group of evangelicals here in GA that were either lined up behind Fred or leaning his way have just fell off and flocked to Huck. He's also received quite a few legislative endorsements by some influential people. Give it a week and we'll see if that makes a difference here in GA. If people are running to Huck and he surges in GA then Fred is truly finished. Fred's hope is the south and if Huck takes GA or at least makes it competitive then it shows Fred's hope in the south has left.

I think Fred is dead in the water. Huck will easily gather up most of his supporters. Huck hasn't had the money/network to run an effective campaign in NH. But I predict he will have a good showing in Iowa and SC. I just don't see how Romney or Rudy can get much support in SC, also.

Huckabee is #2 in the polls. From what I've read of his fisical policy as Governor at Arkansas, I'm not impressed.

The one thing Fred has done is throw haymakers on his way down to the canvass. The "attack ad" he ran during the CNN/YouTube debate took a swipe at Huck's tax/spending record in Arky.

His record was definitely not glowing, but that was also before he became a FAIR Tax disciple.

But probably guarantees not winning in November.

Possibly. I'm still can't say that an election in America is going to swing one way or the other because of a candidates position on gay marriage or gay "rights". The war and the economy will still be the main issues.

You don't think "isolating AIDS patients" will have any effect? Looking at how many votes really called the past two Presidential elections even the "smaller" issues will no doubt play a role in this election. Someone portraying themselves the same compassionate conservative Bush did in 2000 does not fare well with this sort of news. Maybe in Arkansas in 1992 there was still confusion on how HIV was transmitted but many people elsewhere did have a definitive concept of how it was.

If anything, an opponent could visit a pediatric AIDS ward and counter the image of quarantining the ones with this virus.

Is it exactly shocking that a Baptist Minister holds that view?

No, not at all (didn't realize his background until a couple weeks ago). I just wish all the candidates would quit trying to out-Jesus each other. There are other things I'm a bit more worried about

On a sidebar, read some intersting facts about Romney:

worth between 190-250 million

Graduated top 5% in a joint JD/MBA program at Harvard.

made a great deal of him money from industry based in the U.S. being relocated to China.

has 5 sons, none served in the military

mormon

Interesting results out of South Carolina today that Huckabee has taken the lead by 3% points...probably still within the margin of error....but I would rather be on the top side of the margin than the bottom.

The neweest Opinion Research poll nationwide shows Huck within 2 points of Rudy. Fred has dropped 9 points. Looks like that Limbaugh help is paying off.

I think that is the point he was making.

You think? Seems like he was trying to say that Huckabee supporting quarantining HIV/AIDS victims somehow relates homosexuals. Huckabee hasn't made that connection. :ermm:

Again, apparently, someone believes there is a link between homosexuality and HIV/AIDS. I'm just trying to figure out who has made that connection. Did Huckabbe somehow relate the two, or was CSpindizzy
trying to read in between the lines and assumed that Huckabee was relating HIV/AIDS victims to "sinful" homosexuals.

Somebody made the connection, else he wouldn't have put the two in the same sentence.

HIV is a little beyond gays is it not?

Of course it is beyond just gays. Who was arguing otherwise? :ermm:

....

Ummm...I think that he was referring to the post directly above his...quoted below.

because the gay movement probably won't vote Republican now, whereas they are typically vehement conservative types.

Papa wasn't arguing either way...he just made this comment .... to which Dizzy responded. This response from Dizzy would make sense because when he said that it would probably cost him the race in November, he was referring to the "isolating Aids patients" portion (as he backs up in his post following the "cost the election" post. So...Papa's response appeared to Dizzy to be associating gays with Aids I'm guessing. However, the article (and title as shown in the link) also pertains to Huckabee referring to homosexuality as sinful .... so Papa's response could have been asserting that it wouldn't cost him the election in November because the gay community (that Huck called sinners) don't vote Republican anyway. My guess is that no one directly drew the gay / Aids connection ... and it was the series of two psuedo-misunderstood posts. If anyone directly drew the connection..it could have been the author of the article....by putting those two points in the same article.

That is the best assessment I can make by reading through the thread. No reason to pick a fight, IMO.
