Huge Turnout for the VP Debate

Huge early ratings for Palin-Biden debate--The Live Feed

Not sure exactly what the gigantic turnout means, but I can't imagine that the McCain squad is upset about it. The risk to the Obama crowd was the news media making her issues such a big deal that this debate overshadowed all the others. Well, it definitely happened.

I think that A LOT of people tuned in hoping to see a blood bath of gaffes and errors. Biden is obviously susceptible to it ... and Palin didn't fair too well in her early interviews. Instead, they both did a good job. So, how do we walk away from it? I walked away thinking Biden is learning and confirming what I thought all along, Palin is not an idiot, and with some coaching she can "stand by her man" quite well...though I hope that doesn't come off as sexist because it isn't intended to be.

I hope that people walked away seeing that Palin isn't an idiot...she's just a newbie to the national scene..she'll catch on. How much affect it will really have on the Presidential race remains to be seen...I think that this debate will be fondly remembered but forgotten about when it comes to substance.

It's funny to me to see Palin have to deal with questions where she really doesn't have the same beliefs as McCain. Climate change is a good example...she always starts off a little cold before she can get heated up...and for good reason...it's hard to have opinions one way...but have to try to align them (without totally sacrificing your beliefs) with the #1 man/woman.

Both did what they needed to do. Biden attacked McCain and Palin didn't flub anything up in her responses.

Huge numbers did not show up to see Biden. Good situation for the R ticket.

Only if Palin was able to convince the large number of people who tuned in to see her fall flat on her face were swayed to like her more because she didn't. I would say that she probably gained some respect, which will help her in 2012....it certainly didn't hurt.

the huge turnout likely means that Palin is doing what she needs to do for the ticket and that her performance meant more last night than Biden's.

I don't disagree with you. People tuned in to see her. The people on the fence did not walk away with a worse opinion of her, some walked away with a better one. I walked away realizing once again how much I cannot stand John McCain and wishing she were the head of the ticket. Go 2012!

I do not doubt it went a long way in helping her with her party and those who have no idea what they are hearing in any debate. But I think Biden probably won some people over as well he did seem to come off more congenial of the two.

Either way Biden did a good job in the fact this is going to be forgotten over the weekend.

you're missing the point that she draws because people find her to be far and away the most compelling candidate in this race. Her lack of failure has to be a huge positive for the McCain camp.

Simply put, if there is any influence to come from last night's debate, it will be positive for the Repubs. That's regardless of the pundits postgame gibberish dying to pronounce Biden's genius.
