Jon Huntsman Calls for the Rise of a Third Party - ABC News

In an interview on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Thursday, Huntsman called for the rise of a third party, saying another option in presidential politics “would be a healthy thing.

“I think we’re going to have problems politically until we get some sort of third party movement or some voice out there that can put forth new ideas,” Huntsman said. “Someone’s going to step up at some point and say we’ve had enough of this. The real issues are not being addressed and it’s time that we put forward an alternative vision, a bold thinking. We might not win, but we can certainly influence the debate.”

When pressed as to whom the “we” referred to, Huntsman said, “a whole bunch of Americans out there that can’t find a place politically.” He was quick to rule out his own possible bid as a third party candidate.

“That ain’t gonna be me, by the way,” Huntsman said, pre-empting the inevitable question. “I’m not interested in that.”

"Hey, I have an idea. Honey, I have an idea. It's this button you press and you sprout wings and you can fly. You can fly into outer space, to the moon, to Jupiter if you like."

Thanks for posting the article. No doubt, Huntsman is completely right. A strong multiparty system would do this country a world of good.

I believe that number is growing larger than most realize. I know it has come up with some of my friends on both side. I'm voting 3rd party this election anyway.

I'm voting Gary Johnson as well (unless Paul wins, then I will consider). However, posters on this board are the informed minority (all posters, both R & D or I). Those who care enough to read about issues. I'd say we represent less than a third of the population.

Gary Johnson, no hesitation

Unfortunately, the media in this country will never give a 3rd party candidate the publicity they need. Gary Johnson will never be a real contender no matter how qualified he is.

If it's Romney and there's a reasonable chance he can win then I'll vote for him.

If not, I'm on board with GJ.

Which would be?

Public education, mainly. He's kind of vague on how he would go about allowing parents to choose which school their children attend. The only thing I can find is how he wants the government completely out of public education. I wonder how this would solve anything if the issues is bad teachers in public schools. The good teachers will migrate to the expensive schools while parents of students that need good mentors won't be able to afford to place their child in that school. Is there a voucher system? And if so, how is that keeping the government out of public education?

Obamacare. He wants to repeal it completely, I think it just needs tweaking - mainly removal of the mandate. What I really want is just basicly for insurance companies to not be able to deny insurance because of pre-existing conditions.

His social views more than make up for that. His personality is pretty good for a politician, too. Scores extra points for having scaled Mt Everest, participated in Ironman Kona, and he's an avid mountain biker. He's an atheist and believes the government should be neutral on personal beliefs - which includes allowing gay marriage while still allowing churches to not marry gays if they so choose.

Some issues I agree with him include closing tax loopholes, getting out of Iraq and Afghanistan, streamlining legal immigration, legalizing marijuana, and a censor-free internet.

Would you like to make a wager with me over the super bowl played in 2012? I bet you $1000 that the giants win.

If you aren't willing to take that bet, then you already know why insurance companies should not be forced to insure pre-existing conditions.

the mandate is the only thing holding that stuff together. Without it not a single person would ever have insurance
