I know you might be wondering why I put this in the political thread, but it has a lot to do with politics.

Ms. Bishop shot and killed her brother in Massachusetts in 1986. She was never charged. Why? Nobody knows

However, the District Attorney at that time, who chose not to prosecute was William Delahunt, now Congressman from Massachusetts. Delahunt is one of the most Socialist, Anti-Gun congressman. He has pushed for some of the most anti-gun legislation possible.

Why would he release a murderer, who committed a crime with a gun, and then punish those who want to own guns to protect themselves from nutcases like Bishop?

Undoubtedly her family had some connections with Delahunt, while in Mass. and her grandfather was a big supporter of Delahunt

Would it surprise you that she was a self-admitted Socialist?

Welcome to America

This has been all over the news here because it happened in a Boston suburb. It sounded like her mother was a city official at the time and was fairly connected with the police chief at that time.

I think it had a lot more to do with the fact that she was a woman. Women get the benefit of the doubt in murdercases, divorce, child custody, domestic violence...

We had a lady here in TN a few years ago that shot her husband in the back of the head... while he was sleeping. She did less time than Micheal Vick. Hell, probably less time than Donta Stallworth...

I wonder if he was a man and had shot his sister he would have been prosecuted?

Regardless of her mothers connections to the chief of police, the decision to prosecute is in the hands of the DA. Therefore, it was Delahunts decision not to prosecute.

This is what police face everyday with DAs or DeAs. They put rock solid cases together, only to have it thrown out because of political connections.

If she wasnt politically connected, she would be in prison and those innocent people wouldnt be dead.

I think its safe to say that she won't be getting of on this string of murders.

How far of a reach does Delahunt have?

I bet you they will try to get her off on an insanity plea.

I will be surprised if she gets hard time

It does make difference in the sense that the police chief concluded that the investigation should be ruled an accidental shooting. At that point, the DA had less to go on - particularly if he is "encouraged" to do so.

The political connections to the police chief and how the police chief pushed the department to act has been getting most of the press here. There are people who were in the department at the time that have been talking about how they were shocked the chief told them to leave it alone, and that it was an accident.

I don't think the insanity plea will have any affect on the jury here. She was denied tenure, spent her entire morning class time ranting to her students about how she was denied tenure, went home and brooded and came back late in the afternoon shooting away. I'd love to here a defense spin that as insanity as I'm sure I will whenever she goes on trial. I doubt it will have much of an affect.

[] Its political because, even though I don't have any proof, I believe there was an actually an anti-gun component to the decision not to prosecute her.

[] Its political because, even though I don't have any evidence, I believe that this is emblematic of conspiracy by Democrats.

[X] Its political because the DA was a Democrat, I heard that on some wacko's radio show, along with all of this other garbage, and so I am just, as usual, repeating the mind numbingly ignorant and imprecise mad-at-the-world garbage of the under-educated haters of progress

Shocking that it was a democrat in Massachusett's..
They drive women off bridges, and kill them and don't get prosecuted, so why shouldn't she be able to shoot her brother and get off

I mentioned the Delahunt was anti-gun because if he was really wanting to protect people from us gun lovers, he would have pushed for this lady to be prosecuted for the first murder, since she committed it using the evil gun

Delahunt had the means to prosecute. Why not?
What other reason would he have to not prosecute?

Is it that hard for you to see it was a political move not to prosecute?

If it was a republican, It would still be asinine

I have no idea whether it was a favor to a connected family, but if that is so, why do you bring up that he is a Democrat? Wouldn't that be wrong regardless of his party affiliation?

And, if that were so, why vapidly claim it has something to do with being anti-gun?

You've given 3 different reasons for it, all of which basically come back to just saying whatever to attack the Democrat, because he's a Democrat.

Its pretty obvious.

I never mentioned Delahunts party affiliation until you did.

I will say!! If he was Republican, it would be just as stupid for him not to prosecute and I would still say it was politically motivated.

If she wasnt from a well-to-do family that was connected, she would be in prison. No doubt about that.

Being a lawyer, you know as well as I do that if you have enough power behind you and money, you can just about get away with murder.

No doubt that money influences the system in many respects.

Looking at her shooting her brother, connected to a bomb, now shooting her co-workers, somebody dropped the ball here big time. Did they not do any background checks on this woman?

Not demeaning the UAH, but why would a Harvard educated professor be teaching at such a low key college in Northern Alabama?

Harvard educated professors dont normally teach at schools like UAH. They are in high demand at schools known for their academics.

That alone should of been a big red flag for the UAH administration

Maybe it was just a On-line degree!

Considering the whole cover-up scandal with her shooting her brother, I doubt very much that would appear on a background check. The only reason we even know about that is become somebody happened to remember. The records have mysteriously disappeared. As far as the bomb goes she was never found guilty. With us looking back in hindsight it looks like she was probably involved, but we have no way of being sure she was involved. It's pure speculation. I would think that incident would have shown up on a background check though at least stating she was a suspect.
