Lets say that Texas sneaks by OSU... Then loses to Oklahoma somehow.
ND Beats Michigan by quite a few.
We somehow manage to get through FLA,LSU,GA,ALA, and then beat ND who knocked off Michigan.
OSU and MIchigan are close to end the season.

USC has a few scares and almost loses to Cal

Does the strength of schedule and beating 5 Top 20 teams Rank us 2nd behind USC or do we jump them?

Or is it impossible to jump them based on the pure HYPE.

Scenario is with both UT and USC undefeated ofcourse.

:scare: :dunno:

No offense, but who cares?

As long as we are number 2, we still play for the title.

There is no Strength of Schedule in the BCS though, so the only place those big wins help is in the minds of the voters.

No offense to UT, but no, they should not be ranked #1. USC, until they lose a game, deserve the number one spot in the polls. Which shouldn't matter, because who cares about the polls?

Until they lose a game, they deserve that spot... and as long as UT is #2 in the BCS, it doesn't matter.

Who cares, until there is a playoff system the BcS is nothing but a popularity contest...

Well since this post the Pitt Team ND beat got waxed by Ohio. Lets see what ND can do against Michigan today. Then I think we will know more.

I have to admit, seeing Rick Clausen going to South Bend and getting some payback would be pretty sweet.

I was thinking the same thing.

Remember though ND has to play USC Trojans two weeks before meeting us. Can you imagine the importance of this game if Charlie Weis upsets USC???? THis could be an amazing year. Oh yeah LSU is losing to ASU.

Well, it seems from what I saw at work that Ohio State and Texas both looked very impressive against eachother. I'd say that Notre Dame moves up to the top 10, we jump Michigan and go as high as 4th.

1. USC/Texas
2. USC/Texas
3. Ohio State

That's my predicted top 3.

As far as a team being the NC one year and being #1 the next until they get beat is pure hogwash in my opinion. This is usually only so for a few select teams(USC, Miami, FSU). I could be wrong, but I don't remember UT being #1 to start the season after they won the NC, or LSU for that matter. The whole problem is that USC plays a rather weak schedule in comparison to UT, FLA, LSU, or UGA. In my opinion(biased of course) is that if any of these teams go undefeated, they should be ranked #1. I give Texas and Ohio State credit for playing each other. I would take the Big 12, Big 10, ACC, and SEC Champions and have a 4 team playoff. Forget the rest. Louisville, USC, and somebody from the mac or wac may go undefeated but who cares. Polls are flawed, always were and always will be. The only true way to crown a national champion is on the field!

No offense, even though it will come across as offensive...

Shows how much you know. I have read few statements more ignorant to the entire sport of college football than that.

none taken. I wish you would have enlightened me. Anyway I know it will never happen that way. The real problem is that there are too many division 1 schools and there is no way of completely solving the problem. If it would make you happy, we could include the Pac-10 and somebody would have a play in game. I just can't conceive of putting the champions of the Mac, wac, Big East, or Conference USA champion in the same league with the 4 big conferences( I'm sorry, 5 big conferences). Anyway, just trying to think outside of the box. Another silly idea of mine is that the polls should not be taken until about 5 weeks in to the season, that way the writers could have a better idea where everyone stands.

Well, you can also take other at-larges from BCS conferences if the mid-majors bother you.

Either way, we won't be seeing a playoff any time soon

Well at least we agree on one thing. We will not see a playoff anytime soon. I believe the reason is that if there is a playoff, it will fall under the NCAA(that means they decide where the money goes). Everyone knows a college football playoff will generate plenty of money, it's just a matter of who controls all that extra dough.
