A group of guys sit around on lunch break one Monday and talk about the previous weekend's conquests. Each guy goes one by one down the line detailing how attractive his girl was and how many positions they were in and the whole 9 yards. Then they get to you... and you talk about some girl that you did the business with and at the end of your story, one of the guys calls you a "chubby chaser" ot a "BBW thumper".

Since this guy is attacking you based on your sexual preference or based on who you choose to sleep with, is this a hate crime?

I get where you are going - there is a criminalization of thought vibe going on. The PC movement is part of it.

My hypothetical is this with regard to the military for example.

Is it any different for a woman to feel uncomfortable showering in front of a man than it is for a straight man to feel uncomfortable showering in front of a gay man?

My guess is that the former would be considered "natural" while the latter would be considered "insensitive" or "homophobic".

Thoughts? (sorry for the derail RV)

I solved the riddle pretty quick, no frets.

As to the hypo, excellent question.

I did it in the second post. RV.

You could have said "Didn't take you long" or something as such.

You hurt my feelings. Is this a crime? Lets see how quick you are.

If you end up getting attacked because of who you choose to sleep with? I'm not sure if it is a crime or not. What do you think? If you get beat down, does a prosecutor have a right to charge the defendants with a hate crime?

As it stands in my first example (with no attack), would that guy be guilty of hate speech? Should he be fired for attacking your sexual orientation?

Hate Speech = whatever anyone deems is hateful words toward them. Which takes out the joking matter in which they could be delivered in.

Basically IMO, hate speech could be anything, at anytime, no matter the intent.

I could have "perceived" your comments as meaning I am a slow to understand. (Which is true a lot of the time)

But coming from you, that could have been took that way.

Hate speech is fun.:)

hate speech is only against blacks, mexicans, muslims and gays, but only if a white conservative christian says it. if any other person says it, it's considered comedy.

And that was my whole point. Every group out there could argue some slant of how a criminal act of some sort was some special act of hate against them for some case. Then we start giving people special status based on who they are - equality under the law is out the door. And where does it stop? Pretty soon we create a society full of various subcategories with a crime committed against one of those is somehow linked to a special status and due a greater punishment.

media coverage determines what is a hate crime. if it's from a conservative male or female, it will be in the media non stop so the public's perception will eventually be swade. if it's a liberal, it will be on page c9 just after the home garden section.
