I do not know how many of you have looked at some other conference schedules. Such as Louisville for instance. They have a cupcake schedule. Every game is on the Candy and Kensucky level or weaker. If Tennessee played that schedule we would easily win 10+ games annually.

So would you rather play an easy schedule and win double digits every year...

OR

Stay in the SEC and go through what we have endured the last several years AND a rebuilding project that is bringing us back to the top...?

Ultimately, we are only considering this because we are not good right now. We should be good enough to compete at this level again within 2 or 3 years. It is better to be swimming with the big fish in the big pond rather than being a big fish in a small pond.

Just my .02 :peace2:

Edit: I'm not sold on the wisdom of scheduling the #2 team in the nation when we know that we will have the #1 team in the nation every year. That game should be downgraded a bit. Plus... who knew Auburn and Mizzou would be top 10 teams this year?

I like having one good out of conference game each year with the likes of Notre Dame, Miami, Oregon,Oklahoma...... and you can see with Louisville and Ohio State the results of playing a cupcake schedule. Our schedule is crazy this year though, it has been brutal, but mainly because of the quality of our team not necessarily all because of the quality of the teams we have played. Playing the #1 and #2 teams, along with several other top ranked teams doesn't happen often. As a competitor, you wanna compete against the best of the best, and noone can say we haven't.

We accept only the best challengers. We are the Volunteers...

There are a lot of whiners on here that don't share your view.

In order to rebuild the program, one season with an easy schedule will be good. It will give us a winning record and the players will gain confidence.

However;

The following season, when we play our regular schedule, the players and fans will all be hit in the face with reality.

Considering how much strength of schedule is going to factor into getting into the playoff starting next year, a weak schedule can really come back to bite you.

Which one do we win more national titles in?

It's hard to say. After this year, it goes back to a select committee for a final four rather than computer rankings and such. We'll just a have to wait to see how they make the picks.

Plus, no matter what, you have to win two now rather than one. Couple this with the SEC championship game, and I think it is fair to say that if an SEC team runs the gauntlet, they are deserving.

Would we make it to the National Title game in any year if we played four "cupcakes" and went undefeated in the SEC? I would say the answer is yes. So why do we have to play Oregon or Notre Dame?

I'd stay where we are. The SEC is going to go through some major changes in the next 2 to 3 years and we should also be playing for the east at that point. I doubt muschamp is at Florida, or that Saban is at Bama which only helps us.

Unless you're good enough to be in consideration for the NT game it's a moot point.

I'd rather stay in the SEC but tone down the OOC schedule a wee bit. Getting through the SEC is difficult enough without putting Oregon, Oklahoma, etc on the schedule.

I would rather have big games every year, as UT has ALWAYS done, then cower like a vag and win 10 games against South Alabama, Memphis and the like. And besides, if we could make 1 NC game every ten years that would be outstanding (although unlikely). I would hate to have to spend 10 years playing Ohio St's schedule and defending our team as "not soft" just for the chance to play once a decade in the NC game. I want prime time matchups against the best of the best. The reality is that we are not talking about the difference between and undefeated NC year and a one loss no NC year. We are talking about, on average, the difference between a 8/4,9/3 year vs a 9/3,10/2 year (ASSUMING we get beat by the tough non-con teams).

People think ESPN hates us now? Play a weak schedule and win ten games, then listen to them talk about how misleading our record would be. At least playing the schedule we are now, if we ever get back to ten win seasons we will know that we are a legit contender.

True, but given how far in advance schedules are generally made having a weak SOS in a year you are playing lights out could leave you out in the cold. Assuming some of the talk is true a 1 loss team with and strong scheduled may get in over an undefeated team with a weak one. I doubt you are going to be seeing Boise in the playoff very often for instance.

I don't know of anyone that took Louisville seriously because of their schedule. What good is winning 10 games if people are going to make fun of your schedule?

I mean look at this place; people called Missouri a fraud because of their schedule (and beating UF and UGA when those teams were beaten up), and many have said Auburn is a fraud too because of their schedule.

Just my opinion and I know it's to late. But I'd love for next year to have more mid-level talent in competition. A padded record for a year will only help in recruiting.
