If we could not get any proven coach in a search and you knew that Gruden would commit the following year would you endure one more year of this train wreck?

Good question. I would not keep CDD, but would just name Chaney or someone as interim HC for next year and promise them a job on the next staff as an incentive. If CP, Hunter and Bray all leave early and with Neal, Rivera and Dallas Thomas graduating it will probably be a dumpster fire year (again) anyway.

I am NOT saying keep Dooley. I am curious though how many coaches everyone has on their own list before it would be better to just endure this **** for one more year.

It's a great question. The thing is, while we're all caught up in the Gruden thing- we still don't know if he will be an outstanding college coach. We assume, and I feel pretty safely so, that he will be because of his NFL success- but you never know. I'd probably wait a year for Pete before anyone else.

My list contains about 78 coaches I would hire today to keep from having one more year of Dooley.

The problem with your hypothetical is that it entails knowing for certain Gruden would come next year. Whether or not he'll come now, him committing now to come next year is a highly improbable scenario. So my response to your question about it being better to endure another year of Dooley is - to what end? What coach is going to be available and willing then that isn't now? Or, with Saban and Petrino off the table, are we hoping the third best gameday coach in the NCAA (whoever that is) cheats on his wife and falls off his hog?

Another option would be to offer Patterson 4 million dollars per on a 6 year deal. The kicker would be to offer both his OC & DC 750,000.00 each to come along. I tried to look up what Bumpas makes and can't find it. I seriously doubt he makes anywhere near 750. Patterson would get a million dollar raise and he would be setting his coordinators up as well.

Most fans were all about us hiring Randy Shannon as DC when we got Sal. Kind of interesting that if we hired Patterson, we would get Shannon as well. He coaches LBs at TCU.
