would the officials have ran off the field, or would they have stuck 7 seconds up for ND to have an extra shot.

I think ND was screwed.

In almost any other situation the game would have ended.

USC is the darlin though.

I agree completely. But it was also the domers fault for not stopping them on 4th and 9. Not only not stopping them, but giving up a ton of yards.

I believe it too. Those refs would have set new 40 times getting off the field if things had been reversed.

I don't like ND but I felt sorry for Weis. You have to know he feels cheated.

The refs got it right. It was obvious that the clock should have stopped.

They got the call right. The real question would be.....would they get the call right if the roles were reversed.

The topic of the thread was not, was it the right call, but would the call have gone the other way if the rolls were reversed.

That's just some clarification for those who are always somewhat challenged where I'm involved. :D

I'll say again. If the rolls had been reversed no time would have been put on the clock.

I will say the shoe has been on the other foot for ND though. There were many years where they were everyone's favorite and they got favorable calls, no calls, or just bad calls.

Maybe that'll clear the topic up a bit. :biggrin2:

Hey, that's what I asked in the post above yours. :biggrin2:

I tend to agree. Reverse the roll and ND would have gotten the shaft (like they didn't already). But one thing for ND's heroics lastnight they were saved in the polls.

I think the voters probably questioned the way the game ended as well. If several of us are thinking bout it, you know some of them did as well.

As I said, I'm not arguing that it wasn't the correct call, but how many times have you seen refs huddle after time has expired, unless there was a flag on the final play?

I've never seen them do it. When the clock hits zero they make a mad dash to the tunnel.

It was a very surreal ending to a great game.

I do have one question, and I'm not sure about this, but I thought you were supposed to mark a loose ball at the point it crossed the goal line. If that were the case, the ball went out at about the 2 and 1/2 yard line. They gave them the spot to where his forward progress was, just inches from the goal.

Do we have any college refs here? Does ball placement occur at forward progress or where it crosses the boundary of the sideline?

If it's the latter, then they didn't get it right after all.

What USC did on the final play of that game took much manhood. Unbelievable. ND lost that game when it was fourth and nine on their end of the field.

tell me this, the ball went out on the 5 yard line ok, so why didnt they get the ball on the 5 and why did they get the ball on the 1 where linehart was hit?????????

its BS if you ask me.

Look at this pic from ESPN.com, it shows the ball going backwards towards the 2-yd line. This is proof.

there's no doubt that USC got the favorable end of the call all the way around.

It would be interesting to see what USC would have done had the ball been placed on the two or three yard line.

I bet they would have kicked the field goal and played for OT.

You'd think that if they were going to review the play they would have at least gotten the spot right.

Even after all of that, it shouldn't have been a TD because Bush pushed Leinart into the endzone which should have been a penalty.

Leinart even said on National TV that Bush told him that he owed him one.
