I’ve changed my mind. I’m really glad we went all in to win the tournament. Like a lot of you I was grumbling that the grind of a conference tournament could be a hindrance to a deep NCAA tournament run, especially when Chandler tweaked his ankle. But I just watched a recap of the players celebration on YouTube and it obviously meant the world to these guys and now I get it. Hey, we’re cutting down nets. That’s something to savor. I’d like to make the final four but in the end the NCAA tourney is a crapshoot.

This is the video I’m referring to.

Glad we did as well.
We have a team that can win the tournament
Any team can but we are consistent great defense and a deep bench.
Not worried about any team because of depth and the combinations that can answer.
Front Court is developing and can be a factor.
Defense is tough.....

Actually there is no evidence to really support this, in fact teams that win their conference tournament typically do better in the NCAA. Look at Auburn using their SEC Tournament run to make it to a Final Four.

I know Plavsic has caught a lot of grief on here, but I'm just going to say, something turned the light on for that guy, and as far as I'm concerned, he has been a big part of the last few weeks of Tennessee dominate defense.

He was solid during the SEC tourney. Some posters make it a point in every game thread to take shots at him for some reason

He plays a role. Every great team has an enforcer, and he is that identity for this team. He makes some stupid mistakes, sure; dumb fouls, missed shots at the rim, etc. He goes out, takes up space, scores a couple points, grabs a couple boards, but he's the first one over to help a teammate off the floor, the biggest cheerleader from the bench, and the guy who sets the tone for toughness of this team.

Every player has a role. Uros knows his role, plays up to it, and doesn't try to play outside of it, nor does he display a negative attitude about his role.

I also now feel differently. Initially, I'd wanted to see us focus on getting ready for the NCAAT and not worry about the SECT. Now that I see how programs like ours will be shafted in favor of the blue bloods by the committee, I see the SECT as more of a level playing field and something we can hang on to and celebrate. Then NCAAT will always be stacked in favor of the basketball royalty. Outsiders really have a tall hill to climb just to get to the elite 8 much less the final 4.

In the last third of the season at least he leads the team in rebounds per minutes played. We don’t have to be worried about a wide body bullying us in the paint. He has his flaws like most every college player but I think you really hit on his biggest strength. He knows his role and embraces it. Doesn’t get caught up in wanting to do more than what CRB asks of him. That’s key for team success IMO

To me, win the SEC tournament and you are playing on house money. They have a big chip in their pocket, they achieved something and a low seed. The P&B teams were fantastic for example, long win streak, #1 for a long period of time but no regular season championship or SEC tournament championship then early exit from the NCAA's. This team is headed to the NCAA as SEC champions.

I think everyone in this forum is happy we won Sunday including myself. I think people just want to discuss/vent their frustration at the NCAA Selection Committee not counting anything from the tournament for their bracket.

Heck, we were not even the worse team in this situation. Both Texas A&M and Virginia Tech (the later due to seeding) got messed over by the Committee as well.

While the Committee slobbered all over a Big10 Conference that was NOT good enough to get 9 teams in.

You have to believe the NCAA will want the biggest names on the big stage. They'll seed them to make it easier for the blue bloods and I have no doubt the refs will favor them as well. Grab brass rings and trophies when and where you find them.

No reason not to. We had the double bye, so we only played 3 games. We get to rest from Sunday to Thursday. And a huge monkey was lifted from Tennessee's shoulders. I know conference tournaments and the NCAAT are two totally different things, but Tennessee as a program and Barnes as a coach have both had the reputation of coming up short in March. Tennessee's failures in the SECT are a large part of that narrative.

Winning the whole thing in Tampa is an indicator that we're catching fire at the right time.

Underrated posted.
