They are buried in my town. 15 are at my church, and 12 are at the Baptist church. 2nd Lt. Hight is my cousin. I have 69 Confederate ancestors. Hopefully someone decorates their graves every April

Do you mind revealing what town that is? Looking at the list, I am guessing in Georgia.

I lived in Cobb county Georgia for several years. That's why your post intrigues me. Kennesaw to be exact. Wicked war. Doesn't matter which "side" the men fought for. It was all out hell...and, there was always a master. EVERYONE needs to be remembered for their service. I resent that Civil War monuments have been destroyed, recently. It is our history. Thank you.

If the civic sentiment no longer supports the prominent public display of monuments to Confederate leaders & soldiers, then these should be removed with care and retired to memorial gardens. More than one party has offered land for such.

Grave sites should be respected, and military cemeteries should be maintained. All of our history is relevant, the good, the bad, the heroic, and the despicable.

I lived in Marietta most of my adult life, just south of Kennesaw Mountain. Noses Creek ran thru my backyard. Confederate cavalry had dammed the creek to water their horses. The stones are still there. Union over shots and other stuff were dug up in my yard.

Thanks. Was there a Civil War battle fought near there? That seems like a lot of graves of soldiers for such a small town. I agree with Tin Man - all historical battlefields and cemeteries deserve care and respect regardless of current attitudes toward the past.
No battles near here, although much of North GA was a battlefield. We kicked the Blue Belly scum's azz until we ran out of defensible positions. We were outnumbered 4:1, yet we killed twice as many Blue Bellies as we lost. Superior military leadership will do that. Just north of my house in Marietta General Shoup killed 1000 young men from Illinois in an hour at Kennesaw Mountain. It was one of the greatest examples of enfilading artillery fire in military history.
Many years ago I was at my brother's O5 promotion party in Northern Virginia. An officer from the Pentagon asked me where I was from. I said Marietta, GA. He said I'm going there. I want to see how Shoup did it.

Here are my ancestors.

I have a daguerrotype of a young man who served. From middle GA. He was a relative, but no one remembers his name.. Again, I appreciate your efforts. I will snap a pic to post here next time I'm at Mom's.

Would love to see it. The only pic I have is for Joseph Benjamin Barrett, Henderson's Rangers, 45th GA Infantry. It was his wife's locket.
