On rivals we are rated #21... texas tech number 18.....

We have five 4* commits they have four

We have an average star rating of 3.21 theirs is 3.05

We both have 19 commits.... what gives?

It's probably those Texas 3 and 4 stars...Ask Mack Brown about all those homegrown "stars".

They should probably do a follow up ranking four years later to see how the players panned out. They are making educated guesses and that is being kind.

Its because we probably have more JUCO 4 stars. They're not counted in the rankings

There was a big gap between #21 and #20 and with the Couch addition we have closed the gap and if you look at the rankings now if we get another 4* we will likely go up several spots.

That is wrong.

actually I think he might be right. they count for your average stars but rivals goes by an overall point system and I don't think they figure juco players into that equation. rivals has counted couch but the overall points didn't change.

Rivals system is weird. In there defense they are trying to make it as realistic as they can but no system is perfect. We do get points for JUCO players. They get the rankings with a formula that takes into account star ratting also with ratting they get i.e (5.6 5.7 5.8) next they take where they rank at their position. They also give points for being in the top 100, and Finlay for being at a skill position. Then i think they multiply that by a number that depends on your average star ratting in relation to 3.0, so in short it is vary confusing.
We did not move up in rankings but we did move up in points I saw last night that if we get another commit that was worth the same amount of point as M. Couch we would move up to 15/16 in the rankings.
My suggestion if you want to know why we move then use Scout's. I am not saying one is better than the other but you can do the math in your head to figure out their rankings. They only use 2 variables you get X points depending on starts, And Y points depending on rank. x+y=p with P being points, I hope this helps.

Yeah, who does care? If we can bring in a top 15 - top 20 class and coach them up and have a solid year, our recruiting will continue to get better. It's nice to land in the top 5 but it's not required every year. Lots of teams who do that also have down years. Some of these 5* primadonna's are over-rated anyways.

I dont know. I have been trying to figure it out. TT has one 5.9 and so UT. TT has 3 5.8 UT has 4 5.8. One more thing I have been keeping up with the points on rivals and when Couch comitted the first time they added 171 points. This time when he comitted they only added 151 points. This also happened last year with Willis. I wonder if they subtract points for a second comittment.

By Feb. we overtake Ar. OK TT Pitt SC USC ND Old Miss Stanford NC. I was worried Aub might pass us, but don't see it now. We end up at 11.

The points have changed... we went from 900s to 1100s

The difference could be in how the 3*'s are rated as well. I haven't seen TTU's class but Tennessee has I believe only 4 5.7's at this point.

OOOOOOOOOO now it makes since.... but not really lol

I guess we'll just wait and see the scoring system does seem inconsistent especially counting couch differently each time he committed

I replicated Rivals formula(googled "rivals rankings formula") for our commits and was able to get their number exactly. If anyone wants my excel sheet pm me your email. Also, the difference in the Couch points could be both the difference in the classes moving average or if he has changed in the Juco rankings(currently #11 if he was #10 or higher before it effects our points). I know it was mentioned before ,but this is by no means an exact science. Just as an example would actually move up in points by a small margin if we dropped our lowest ranked recruit.
