I feel so bad for C.J. Leak.

Yeah, I really hate that for CJ. At the same time though, it wouldn't suprise me a bit if the coaches were using this as a ploy to push everyone. To me, the worst case scenario would be one of the freshman starting with CJ as the #2. The freshman falls on his face, then CJ goes in.

The whole scenario is bad. I am not any of these options are good ones.

It is the right decision. You will see

Link to August 18 scrimmage highlights

Click on the Schaeffer 33 yard run, when he cuts after getting through the line, the speed is just incredible.

Click on the Ainge Pass to Bret Smith, turn up the volume and hear how hard the football hits Bret in the numbers.

Phil has made the right decision.

I think it is the right decision as well. Now is the really difficult part for Fulmer, he must decide between Ainge or Schaffer. My money is on Schaffer. But, I am not too worried if we can win a championship with Tee Martin we can win with one of these guys as long as the team gets behind whoever is named the starter like the 98 team did with Tee.

The is absolutely the correct call. Leak cannot make the decisions for this team to be successful and Clausen doesn't have the arm strength or speed to help the team. The same problems you get with Freshmen in UT's system is the same problems you get from Leak only worse.

No one can say this is the right choice because no one has had a real test. The freshmen might do well or not when game time comes under the lights and 107,000 fans. The players felt bad for C.J. also with all the problems with his career and his brother not coming to UT.

You're right, we really don't know if it is right or not. It is also not concrete. Things COULD change, although they have not changed much for CJ since he has been @ UT.

Lighten up LIO!!!!!!!!! So, the freshmen might not do that good this year. Well, If Leak plays then we will be in the same situation next year!!!!!!! Might as well break them in now and you never know, they might surprise us!!!!!!!! :good: Im excited about the change. It will liven things up a bit!!!

I'm all for it. That said, I do feel bad for C.J., but that doesn't justify giving him the starting nod if he's not better than the other guys. I think a big part of this is building for the future - if we had tried to stay w/ C.J. all year, we'd be in the same boat next year, and then some with Crompton on the way... I can't wait for the first game to see these guys under the lights!!

Look at it this way. We all know that a freshman was going to play and end off as the starter this year. At least now they have more time to get the bugs out on the field. Starting them now, could be the difference in the SEC East race.

Still y'all...

I KNOW that CPF knows better than I do which guys have the most talent, but it would be so much easier if CJ was more pompous or mouthy. He seems to be all class and I hate for him to have hung around all this time for nothing. I hope they didn't let CJ come and play just to entice his younger brother along. That could only be defined as wrong.

All in All ,when you throw some green in, he's gonna lose it one way or the other.Going from highschool to college is two totally different situations.I just hope that Erik or Brent have the maturity that Phil is speaking of.I still think it's a bad call but on the other hand Leak has not impressed me with his ability to read things.

:D Personally I think this is great! As an ND fan this gives us a major advantage playing Tenn. The biggest weakness ND has is its secondary, and a freshman QB can be easily confused by alignments and shifts by the defense. Keep up the good work Tennesse and see you in November. (Still hoping for a good game!)

The freshmen will see more and better defensive secondarys than ND and all before ND comes to town.

I wish CJ would have stayed at WF..he would have had a decent career there.

I also think its good to go ahead and throw the frosh to the wolves. The D will be solid and keep UT in the games..while the running game will help with the transition and take some pressure off the QB!

C.J. had plenty of time to take the lead, if he had made any impression at all on the coaching staff we would already have two red-shirt freshmen. I think he has a lot of class (much more than his brother) by volunteering to move to safety ( anything to help the team) . Maybe if Banks had that same kind of fortitude he would not have been showing his :censored: in the offseason and we could be looking forward to some memorable plays against the gators again this year.

Speaking of Banks, I saw where he had to sit out of the scrimmage Saturday because he was late to a meeting. When will it end. :shakehead:

btw, welcome to VolNation :welcome:

CJ would have lost his job by his JR. year with the new Offense WF installed when the coach that recruited CJ was fired.

Jr, welcome to the Nation. That is a solid post by you. And I totally agree, CJ had his chances, and he could not make the cut.
