I find the reasoning why Dobbs is the starter...

it looks like dobbs has the better handle of the playbook. riley might be more talented but doesn't know the offense as good. i hope all debate over the qbs is done after this weekend. dobbs can run, our offense has been handicaped due to no running qb. its really exciting, and i can't wait to see the offense with dobbs in. he's gonna tear it up!

Oh, do you watch practice everyday? Since Riley hasn't played how to you know Dobbs knows the offense better?

Butch pretty much said so in his last interview. He said Dobbs must have a photographic memory, because when he's in, they can actually open up the playbook.

This is absolutely getting ridiculous.

The entire situation has been about saving redshirts. If Dobbs plays well enough to win, why in the hell does it matter? Everybody is going to get a turn in the spring. We should simply be happy that the Vols seem to have two viable options at QB. Perhaps the problem is that it has been way too long since that has been the case. We don't know how to act anymore.

Agree...it's beyond ridiculous. It's got to be 12 year olds that don't have a clue starting these dumb*** threads.

Man I hope you're right....but after reviewing the game film I thought Dobbs played okay considering the situation....now dont get me wrong...I, like you,HOPE "he tears it up"....but we seem to be coronating him the next Tee Martin (insert whomever here)...I just am not convinced yet...and our OLine was never assembled to aid a read option QB...not being negative...just realistic...I had this same feeling last week when some thought we would really stack up against Bama...WE ARE NOT THERE YET...but I- like you- do have optimism about the future and Dobbs or Ferguson...

I believe Butch knows what he is doing. I'll trust him to make the best decisions for us to win! I'll do my part in supporting him.
GO VOLS!!

Worley is out with the thumb.

Peterman hasn't been getting practice reps due to injury.

Ferguson was in a walking boot this week.

You guys are reading waaaaay too much into this situation.

Dobbs is the healthiest option we have.

I understand Dobbs has a photographic memory. Therefore, it would seem logically that if he has seen a particular defense before, he would know how to react to it from memory. So, memory plus athletic ability plus snaps in a live action game should make for a pretty good QB. I believe he's got more going for him than the other QBs plus he's completely healthy. However, that's just my opinion.

I think OP is making mountains out of molehills. Dobbs is currently healthy which makes him the right choice off the bat and secondly, CBJ doesnt want to exhaust the redshirt for both frosh QBs. I think Dobbs will be just fine. Kid is an athlete, he can throw the ball, and use his feet to keep defenses honest, which may open up the downfield passing game. Mizzou is a solid team, but they arent Oregon or Bama. This game is very winnable.

I dont understand how this logical view of the situation is so difficult for so many to grasp. The difference between the two freshman in practice has been negligible. One day Dobbs probably looks better. The next day Ferguson. And that is just practice, the coaches do not know which one will translate it to the game better. So at this point, Dobbs has burned his redshirt so why burn Ferguson's redshirt as well? It makes no sense unless an injury forces you to. Which is the ONLY reason Dobbs redshirt was burned in the first place. If Peterman was healthy, Dobbs would still have his redshirt.

.................maybe. but I wouldn't bet a lot of MY money on that.

but I do agree that if you have 4 QBs and 3 are hurt, then you play the one that isn't hurt.

The conclusion I draw from all this is that Jones likes both guys but thinks Dobbs is a little better. He says what he says because he is likely afraid (and rightfully so) that he might be left with only Worley and Dobbs as scholarship QB's going into '14.

They thought they could RS both giving them those two guys, Peterman, and a '15 signees going into '15. The injuries to both JW and NP blew that plan up... forcing Jones to show his hand sooner than he would have liked.

I am not saying I know or believe that Dobbs is way ahead of RF. He may not be. But for some reason Jones felt like he was the next guy up and he has specifically said it was NOT because RF had a hurt foot.

I am personally intrigued by what the "Brain" will be able to do just because he's that smart.

How many times does Jones have to tell us that Dobbs playing first had nothing to do with RF being injured before you folks believe it?

Agree completely. However I suspect that Jones being impressed with Dobbs' innate intelligence factored in to the decision. CBJ seems to light up when talking about Dobbs' intelligence and ability to pick things up.

Butch didn't want to have to fight to keep all of the QBs on the roster for 2014.

According to Hyams Jones said Monday he would do anything to beat Mizzou including using a 2 QB system.
Now that may have meant Worley and Dobbs, but I wonder if he would burn both shirts to win.

I seldom make ironclad predictions/statements... but Worley isn't playing Saturday.

...INTERESTING.

He just said Dobbs is starting because he has more experience.

What he meant was "snaps" from the last game.

So to me, he's not really putting the "best" QB to win the game. I think he actually doesn't know..and that kind of scares me.

I would think by this time of the year, you know what all your QBs are capable of doing, right?

according to my decoder ring...
