At Jayski.com, they keep track of who would have won the championship under the old points system....

This year, Kevin Harvick would have won over Jimmie Johnson by 285 points. Denny Hamlin would have been third, -409 points.

Something else interesting, they now have results if the Chase system were used from 1975-2003. Some of note...

Instead of seven, Dale Earnhardt would have won five championships.
Instead of three each, Cale Yarborough and Darrell Waltrip would have each won four championships.
Instead of one each, Rusty Wallace and Bobby Labonte would have each won two championships.
Instead of none, Harry Gant would have won two championships. Sterling Marlin would have also won a championship.

Also, had the Chase existed in 1992, the champion instead of Alan Kulwicki would have been......................................................................

Kyle Petty

Crazy.

I was reading that earlier. Good stuff, but remember teams would have prepared differently throughout the season adjusting to the title format.
