Nothing like the French. They have some mean and rude folks over there, especially towards Americans it seems...or maybe they just didnt like me!

But I agree with OP that when they get in a rammer jammer we will be there like always.

i also love how this survey is people's opinion as to the best place to live. i.e. no facts, just whoever has the best marketing.

Why France is best place to live in world - CNN.com

I'm sure they will come calling on us for help the next time they get invaded, or when a Muslim majority starts to pass sharia law.

Instead of knocking France, the U.S. has some things we need to do better at. The culture in the U.S. is a problem, too much drug use, welfare, etc. What partly made this country great was the emphasize on working hard, God, and family. But that's not valued like it was in today's culture. Now we see the effects of it. :twocents:

I guarantee our culture values those more than the french.

It's all a matter of perspective anyway. Just depends on what you find fulfilling. Personally, I don't know if I could take 7 weeks vacation a year. I've got to be doing something and feel worthwhile.

How do you think America or anybody else gets anything? Force. That is how it is. And if you feel a threat you take care of it immediately. After "The Night of the Long Knives," they should have taken care of Hitler immediately.

Instead of coming back to Englad with some BS signed treaty stating Hitler was nice and sweet.

All of those countries in Europe should forever be indebted to America and the allies. But over time, people forget.

Look at 9/11. How quick we all forget. Clinton let them off the hook the first time. Some people spend all of their time plotting attacks against us. We should always take the fight to them. ALWAYS.

who are you and what have you done with the bed-wetting, hand-wringing liberal we've come to know and love as "oklavol"?

If I were going to live in France, I would live up in the Normandy region. I'd have a bumper sticker on my Renault that reads "Got Allies?".

 Always been here.

I think you made the assumption that anyone who doesn't like the Republican party, must be a liberal. Not the case.

We are guilty of that ourselves. If not for France, we might just be the southern provinces of Canada.

the so called french culture is very american:

they wear our jeans, wear our sneakers, watch our movies, listen to our music, and even at times eat our food. it's pretty sad they dislike people who they are trying so hard to emulate.

Not a very good analogy. The United States may have become the southern provinces of Canada (although unlikely, for a variety of reasons). France, on the other hand, would be a western province of Germany if not for the United States. Between saving France's inept, cowardly ass in World War I and again in World War II, I think the U.S. has more than repayed the debt incurred during the American Revolution.

And Americans don't watch foreign movies, wear foreign clothes, eat foreign foods? If you listen to only American music, then I feel for you.

It's a two way street.

But the average American doesn't have the hatred and disdain for French people like they have for us.

the difference being is that here in the US, those are generally considered evidence of culture and sophistication.

Is a Royale with Cheese haute cuisine in Paris?

it is a two-way street, but it's Rodeo drive on one side and Magnolia Avenue on the other.

I hear alot about how much the French hate us, yet i was in paris for a week, I only encountered one instance of this and it was at the Eiffel Tower (Tourist spot of all places). Went to New York for almost 2 weeks I felt snobbed at one point every day.

Having a beer at McDonald's was a cool difference

If you're referring to the first World Trade Center bombing, you are sadly mistaken. All the conspirators were arrested, tried by the American justice system and have been serving life terms ever since. The Clinton administration most definitely not let any of them get away.
