50:50 that the Kentucky game is either important or it is not important. I think that meltdown will not begin to describe the fan base if we lose to Kentucky. Unhinged would be a better description. If you don't think this game is important then ask the Kentucky people. Do you want your Kentucky friends bragging about how they beat us? I mean Kentucky? And, two out of the last three years? Talk about low of lows. Nadir. We lose two of the last three years to a basketball school? Folks, this game is monumental.

We've been unhinged for several weeks already. :)

My UK friends only care about One thing: Can their freshman basketball team win a NC? They really don't care about Saturday

Pretty simple - this game is only important if you lose it. It means nothing if you win it. It means everything if you lose it.

Pretty much this.

There's not really much to gain from winning; we expect to beat UK in football and expect not to 4-8. If we win we merely (barely) meet a standard. If we lose, it's the exclamation point on a crap season.

I don't think this game means anything, with the exception of remaining one of only 2 schools that has never lost 8 in a season. We aren't competing with UK for recruits and any recruit that wants to jump ship already has the fuel to do that from the Vandy game. No Bowl, no extra practice, a group of seniors where most don't seem to care enough to bust their a$$ for Tennessee. Outside of banter with Kentucky fans and a little more embarassment if we lose (if that's even possible anymore), I say it means nothing.

The win is more important to BJ than it is to the fans. Tn has never lost 8 games and who wants to be the coach that had to hold that record ?

And, also this game means so much more to the Kentucky player. It will make their season. Probably to most of our players it probably doesn't mean very much. That's the conundrum that Butch Jones is facing. He really needs to get this win.

I think it's important in terms of proving this team hasn't completely imploded and to keep the fanbase from erupting. A big mindgame. Other than that, I couldn't care less tbh.

Haven't seen a win in awhile....would like to see one.

Sure aint worried about a meltdown. There isn't anyway I could feel worse than after losing to vandy two years in a row. Heck I'd rather have had a two year death penelty.

This is the equivalent of the hoops team playing in the NIT last season. There is no motivation to win for the Vols and all the motivation in the world for the opponent.

Also, even though the game itself means squat, it will be the holy grail for those who are jumping off the butch train if we lose. Same thing Cuonzo Martin bashers do. They point to the Mercer loss in the NIT as the damning evidence that the coach sucks.

Actually, its only important to the non excuse makers. The other side will make excuses for CBJ if we lose. They will talk about how tough Alabama was on us and that the lack of depth makes it okay to lose. And that a poor freshman shouldn't be expected to throw for a whole hundred yards or more against an SEC foe.

That will actually be said by someone if we lose.

Its not gonna end Jones' tenure at UT but ask Dooley what a loss to UK means.

While winning the game will not propel you to a contract extension the perception after losing that game is not good.

Only a coach that knows he can fix what is broke. Let's not kid ourselves. The Win is important to all of us, equally.

A loss does not devastate CBJ as much as it does the fanatical fans. After all, he has been there before and in reality a loss just validates what he already knew, but could not nor would not state the obvious.

Would you rather hear from a coach that made statements about the lack of talent, depth, desire, ambition like we endured under Do-hickey for 4 years. Players under the bus.

If CBJ tells us what he already knows about the state of this team then half the fan base goes south in an outrage. In other words, the fan base doesn't really want to know the truth.

The idiot that called in the Death Threat on Cam Sutton targeted the wrong guy, there is a long list of calls he should have made first and that list should never have a player on it.

Dooley would have been on the list just don't think he was at the top of it.

The last time Tennessee lost to Kentucky and Vanderbilt in the same year was

1964

Kentucky 12-7
Vandy 7-0

Doug Dickey was in his first year

It means we keep this streak alive

I disagree that a win means nothing. If this staff can keep this team focused and show improvement in a "meaningless" game and not mail it in (which seemed to be a Dooley staple). It will at least give me some peace of mind that they didn't quit on their coaches.

This game is on about the same level as the Austin Peay game, no good can come from it. If the Vols win? So what? If Kentucky wins? Absolute disaster.
