Folks this is a sad day. I will fully support Butch Jones but our fan base has consistently brought the 1990s mindset into 2012. What I mean by that is time and time again folks thought "oh were not at the bottom we will still beat vandy, oh were not at the bottom we can get gruden, oh we are the top job out there, oh Dave Hart knows what he is doing and has this under control so we should wait until his "guy" is hired. Forgive me for the rant but man this should kick us into reality. We got out hired by Arkansas and the coaching search was the exact same last minute stop the bleeding as last time.

I just wish he would've went with Butch Davis. Jones has no recruiting ties to the southeast, whereas Davis is a slam drunk recruiter with a great record. This move was all ego from cheek and Hart. They had information nobody else had! What a joke.

Yes but how many on this board would have been giddy had UT rehired Fulmer? Jones definitely isn't the best name and after all the Gruden crap it's a letdown, but a lot of the same people moaning today are the same people that would be dancing if we trotted Fulmer back out, and to me had that happened would have been probably the most pathetic thing we could have done. Talking about being stuck in the 90s.....

Butch Davis will never make it at UT. I think his record at Cincy was 28-14. His recruiting class is currently ranked at 75 in the nation. He is the epitome of a mediocre coach. He is exactly a Vandy type hire.

I would have been happy with a lot of people, even some imaginative NFL hires but I just don't see this one. I hope I'm wrong and eat these words.

He will make it 4 years

All you can do is pick another team or get on board. What makes me ill is I use to feel sorry for South Carolina and now I'm sure some South Carolina fan is feeling the same for Tennessee. They need to start the seat removal project. This is going to be the hardest sell ever. The recruiting class will tell all for the next 4 years.

This is the exact opposite of what people should think. You're saying that fans should allow incompetence in the AD to beat them into accepting mediocrity. That's a good way to end up like Colorado.

That's not what I said at all. Im saying people had their blinders on. Who's going to change what youre referring to though?

An athletic director who does whatever it takes to acquire the best coach possible, instead of allowing his ego to get in the way.
