I hope tonight gives Charlie Taylor some confidence

I know Alabama A&M is kinda bad. But so much of sports is about confidence. Hitting is no different. I’ve thought for awhile that Taylor just hasn’t looked confident at the plate.

Maybe tonight will be a spark that gets him going this year.
If it doesn't, then nothing will. He had himself a game.

I know Charlie had a tough time at the plate last year. For those in the know, was his hitting just part of who he was as a hitter, or did he hit well in practices and scrimmages, but just couldn’t translate it to games? Also, how did he hit this past fall and preseason practices this winter? Regardless, glad to see him drive the ball with authority.

Don't need a coat or cap when you are that excited for your teammate. They were genuinely glad to get all the negative stuff off of him. One teammate was adamant and shouted "F-word all you Chuck haters. Get you some." That was on the first HR.
“Getcha some!” My favorite dugout encouragement! Used it, though sparsely, when I coached the twins, back in the day. They knew I was fired up!

I don’t want to jump to conclusions yet, but it’s a very positive development for this team if your 9-hole can not only be a great defensive catcher but a competent bat in the lineup in SEC play.

Pavalony wasn’t an elite bat, but he was a very solid hitter at the bottom of the lineup who was a power threat. Having Charlie just give us what Pav did would be massive for this team.

Last year Charlie was a part time guy, almost exclusively a midweek guy sometimes. He did some good things but maybe, just couldn’t find consistent rhythm? Anyway, I watched in summer ball, totally different player. The defense and arm was there, and hit well enough that I never thought that was gonna be a problem. He just needed more opportunity. He didn’t flash a lot of power in summer ball, so maybe that’s a bit of a surprise but, he’s been in the weight room.

Happy for him. He’s like a few on this team that have had to wait their turn.

It should be noted that Chuck got a lot of love from fans last year, even when he was struggling a bit. Most fans are supportive and we shouldn’t be too bothered by the small percentage of malcontents.

When you put Chuck and Cal in this position, with good bats, they will be a dual threat. Good for each other.
…and great for the team. Hopefully eliminates any tired knees behind the plate. I find it hard to imagine a 37 year old Maldonado back there for 120 games last year, played through a broken finger and sports hernia. Definitely need your toughest players at back stop.

Just to make sure I was putting out correct info I went back and checked. Charlie played in 22 games, started 12, had 36 AB’s last year.

When we make it to SEC play, we’ll know more, but he’s off to a good start defensively and offensively.
