I know it's early, but is this a must win?

Would losing for a second time to Xavier, coupled with the UTEP debacle, affectively end our season in freaking November? There isn't a lot of chances at quality OOC wins going forward, and our conference schedule isn't going to help all that much.

I realize this is WAY too early, but it feels like this is a pretty big game.

You wouldn't think so, but the way we are playing against decent opponents...it's looking like it's important. If we literally don't win any decent non-conference games, you can bet we will probably miss the tourney and Martin will be fired. The past two years have shown that good conference play isn't enough.

To lose to the same team twice in less than 3 weeks, especially after last night, would be devastating to our case come March. Yes, this is a MUST win.

I wouldn't say it's a "must win", but it's about as close as you're going to get to it for a game in November.

I sure hope they are approaching it with a sense of urgency. Xavier is a 1 1/2 point favorite. Here's hoping that their OT loss is still lingering, because we need a W in a bad way.

Pretty much what I was thinking. The thing is that, if we are still going to make an effort to get in the tourney, we really can't afford to lose to decent non-con opponents. I don't think this game will make or break our season as of right now, but it definitely has the potential to be resume bump or a killer.

It is early, but we are quickly digging our way into RPI Hell.
214 currently after what could be viewed by the committee as a bad loss. (100+ projected RPI UTEP)
With so many bad teams in conference, it's going to be very hard to ascend to a position to be considered worthy of a Bubble shot.

Just setting up our annual where will our Rpi be after winning our last 10 games discussion.

We got it right where we like it

To us its a "must win" but to cuonzo its a "whatever I'll see if we can do enough to get to the tourney in February" game

There's a rule-of-thumb in basketball that it's hard to beat the same team twice.
But that paradigm goes right out the window when that same team is being coached by Cuonzo.

I agree these days you have to have some good non conference wins to help your cause.

Now that they have won. Would U.S.C. or Wake Forest be a better win for UT?
wake forest will probably have the higher RPI after the season, considering the teams they play in the ACC. USC will probably have a better win/loss record.

Probably a wash, just need to win.
