No doubt O'Neill had a bare cubbard when he got here. DeVoe had a nice career overall but it was getting tough in his last few years. He just could not recruit and ended up with some subpar teams. Compared to what we have been through since he left, it wasn't that bad. DeVoe was probably the best true basketball coach of the bunch.(hatvol96 @ Jan 30 said:O'Neill's lack of talent was a result of Houston's recruiting. Everything Jerry Green accomplished was a result of the recruiting O'Neill did. Also, DeVoe made the NCAAs six times. I'm not sure that's so bad.
Many wanted Devoe to join Buzz's staff to help out with fundamentals and D(vol_freak @ Jan 30 said:No doubt O'Neill had a bare cubbard when he got here. You are actually right and way more right than the reasons I gave...i was just being a jackass with those other reasons I gave. Recruiting is THE reason devoe couldn't do it anymore...(oklavol @ Jan 30 said:IMO what brought Devoe down, was his inability to recruit well, and he himself blamed that on the fact he ran a clean program, hinting everyone else wasnt.
I don't like the term "true" fan...I'm a fan that cares more than the average fan. I should'nt have said no one cares as much as me. There are some who do care as much as me...but none that care more.(tidwell @ Jan 30 said:Congratulations...

THANK U GOD. SOMEONE HERE OTHER THAN ME WHO IS TIRED OF RECRUITING.(Jmxvol @ Jan 30 said:tired of his wishy-washy crap...It's taken away press from the bball team. He's just one player...plus it will make Brent Hubbs cry
low class to say a guy may be in jail? lol(kiddiedoc @ Jan 31 said:CC, I really think we should leave out the stabs at recruits. IMO, it's low-class and, ultimately, detrimental to the program. We need to win, set a reputation, and recruit, recruit, recruit. . . .but if a guy wants to go somewhere else, shouldn't he have the right? The chance of a lifetime to go to any school in any state he wants. . . .for free. Cut the kids a little slack. Heck, I love East Tennessee, but even I had to get away for a few years.
