200,000-plus Tennessee Students to Be Overcharged on Student Loans – to Pay for Health Care

If you are a college student and you've been drinking the ozbozoaid, you may want to rethink that.

This latest Washington takeover would deprive 15 million students – who voted with their feet and chose private instead of direct loans last year – of choosing among 2,000 community lenders and nonprofits. Washington will throw out of work 31,000 Americans who are now helping students apply for loans. They'll replace these lenders with the equivalent of four federal call centers, making the process of getting their loans about as friendly as going to the Department of Motor Vehicles for a driver’s license. And Washington will do this by adding half a trillion dollars to the federal debt – and worst of all, by overcharging students for their loans.

..........................................

If this Washington takeover happens, I propose that all 19 million-plus student loans made by the government carry this warning label: "Beware: Your federal government is overcharging you so your representative can take credit for health care and more government programs. Enjoy the extra hours you work to pay off your student loan."

It's about damned time that he got pissed off at something, anything, I thought he was a piece of crap for calling the thug who threw his daughter in the street and highjacked her vehicle a 'gentleman.'

Political correctness has it's limits.

The folks at Smart Money disagree somewhat.

There used to be two ways to get federal student loans, like Stafford and PLUS loans. One way involved getting these loans through the direct loan program, which is run by the Department of Education; the department sends money to colleges and the colleges then issue loans to the students. Another was getting federal loans through the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP) where loans are subsidized by the Education Department and are provided by private lenders and banks to students and their families.

The new legislation replaces FFELP with 100% direct lending effective July 1, 2010. Students could see few – but favorable – changes as a result. While the two loan programs are nearly identical, the direct loan program offers more favorable terms for PLUS loans (these loans are available to graduate students and parents of undergraduate students). The interest rate today is lower at 7.9% vs. an interest rate of 8.5% through FFELP.

I'm annoyed too.

I didn't vote for Alexander last time he ran, I didn't vote against him cause I've sworn off democrats forever, they are toxic and a danger to your health.

Oh and oops, that was Corker's daughter who was carjecked.

Ford carried my congressional district against Corker.

I tried to help Corker out but never actually got to talk to him and after he went to Washington and came home for the first break he was too booked up to meet with me according to his schedule person.

During the campaign I talked with some of his campaign people and eventually was passed up the ladder to some guy who wanted to know more than he wanted to tell, I wanted Corker to meet someone who could very well help him win this district and the guy asked who that was but I wouldn't tell him.

I think the guy was an undercover democrat really because Ford made an unscheduled visit to the local town a couple of days later and all the local big wheel democrats turned out for an impromptu rally on the court house steps.

Pretty dumb, that isn't even where you go in this county if you want to pick up a bunch of votes and the guy I wanted Corker to talk to lives in another county anyway.

From some of the questions Corker asked Bernanke I don't think Bob is nearly as bright as he thinks he is.
