I refuse to watch Vandy in a bowl game

Vaughn is a transfer from Illinois. He went to high school in Nashville. Yes UT recruited him but I’m not sure how hard. He was a 4 star.

I hope Eric Gray will be as good as Ke’Shawn Vaughn. We need a game breaker who can score from anywhere on the field. I’m hopeful Gray will be that guy.

I’d say we did a piss poor job if we didn’t recruit that kid hard. He’s special. Vandy would’ve beaten us by 40 points if he’d played against us.

This didn’t age well.

He’s a defensive guy and their D was azz tonight, and their offensive line was getting abused by a 3 man rush.

And he still hasn’t had a winning season yet at Vandy.

If they had an offense like this from '95-'97, they would have been very good. Their defense was stout. They had several future NFL players on it (Corey Chavous, Jamie Duncan, Shelton Quarles). Those were the Peyton Manning years and we struggled like hell with them.

But, they didn’t have this offense/their playmakers now back then. Their was no Vaughn, no Shurmur, no Lipscomb, and they were bad. Right now, despite their performance in a meaningless bowl game right now, their defense is good and their offense is good, and their program is better and more talented than it’s been in my lifetime.

So do you think UT’s D is good? Vandy only gave up 3 less points per game than UT and their schedule was much easier. No Alabama or WVU. If you read their message boards they want to fire the entire D staff. Problem is their head coach is in charge of the defense. Add to that, Coach Mason has never had a winning record at Vandy. He is 24-38.
So Vandy may be a little better than the past but let’s not act like they are world betters.

Youre missing the point. This is VANDY we are talking about. Where they aee NOW and where they WERE... Radio has done a good job. Theyve beaten our asses how many outta the last 5? What other Vandy coach has done that?

Just within the first quarter, there were 4 mentions of Vandy relative to Tennessee: 2 mentions of the fact that they made a bowl because they beat us in the season finale, a mention that Mason has won 3 in a row against Tennessee, and a mention that Vandy's first quarter offensive output was the most in a quarter since the 2005 Tennessee game, which they won. And there were multiple mentions of Jalen Hurd and how he transferred from Tennessee. I laughed, then cried.

As for the game, I think even Vandy natives are a little discontent about Mason now. Cole Cubelic before the game called it a "must win" for Mason, which I thought was kind of ridiculous, but his calling card is defense and it wasn't good in this game, for some parts of this season, and for basically all of last season. I think his record against Tennessee is single-handedly keeping him from being on the hot seat.

They are losing Shurmur, Blasingame, and maybe Vaughn if he declares. Lipscomb is a junior who had a good year but don't know what his NFL prospects are. If their defense doesn't markedly improve, next year could be absolutely atrocious for them.

You aren't kidding. Manning's Soph-Sr. years they wore him out. If they had any sort of offense they would've beaten UT at least 2 times in those 3 years.

I think you are missing the point. Vandy is still Vandy. It is UT that is not UT. They have gone to two bowls in his 5 years and both times only because UT was terrible and they beat us to get to 6 wins. If UT has been UT you would not be pumping how good Vandy is.

Beating our asses is hardly some lofty achievement. We've sucked pretty much for a decade. The 2016 win I'll give him credit for because we were the better team and they just beat us. And I'll give him credit for doing what UK can't consistently do, which is take advantage of us being down and beating us when they should.

Otherwise, his record his hardly impressive and like I said, he's yet to have a winning season. As has been said, him beating us 3 times in a row is literally what is keeping him there.
