I say we will have a new coach by this time next week. The more time that goes by the more I think that Bruce Pearl is going to be our next head coach.

I agree with you.....still don't know what to think about Pearl though. Could be good, could be bad.

I think I like him compared to the other choices out there. I think he can bring some excitement to the program and I think he is a good coach. His team also plays a fun style of basketball.

Yep and they play hard for 4 quarters, we are not used to that.

I think he will be a better choice than Anderson or Lutz. I really don't know much about Altman so I can't comment on him.

I am not big on Lutz at all. Anderson could be okay though.

It is no secret, I would like to have Knight, but I don't think that is going to happen.

A buddy up in Cincinnati said word up there was that Travis Ford had not signed with UMass yet because he is holding out for UT. I have no idea where that rumor came from, but I do know that UT will be making a big mistake if they do not take a look at Ford. He was in the NCAAs with EKU and is a Pitino boy. Sendek, Donovan, and Tubby are among the names who have had their coaching careers sparked by Pitino. Ford will succeed at a major D-1 school, and I fear his name will end up on the list of coaches that UT could/should have had. I will support whoever is hired by UT and hope the Vols will soon return to the NCAAs.

Well, at least now maybe we'll get some definite answers on Knight. Man, how about West Virginia? See what a homogeneous gene pool can do for you? They'll certainly have a lot to talk about at the family reunion this year! :jawdrop:

Hiring Travis Ford would prove that we are the ultimate bottom feeding program in D-1. Talking about Pitino proteges, how about the great job Jon Pelphrey has done in making in South Alabama one of the worst teams in the Sun Belt. Ford has had one good year at EKU. To hire him would prove we are nothing but a JV program compared to UK or UNC, depending on which flavor of the month, unproven coach we pull from their pool.

How about Pearl though? I am liking this guy. I would never expect some offshoot of Wisconsin to play on the same level as other Sweet 16 teams.

If Ford can win at EKU, he can win anywhere. That was EKU's first dance appearance in 26 years.

As for John Pelphrey, he is more a spin-off of Donovan than of Pitino. You know how it is, when you make a copy from a copy, it's not going to be as good as the original.

The more I read about Pearl, the more I like him. I like his philosophy of coaching. He said that he wants "tough" guys playing ball for him. He likes to put a lot of pressure on opposing teams to get his guys to play hard and uses the pressure to change the mentality of his team. That makes sense, if you are the team trying to dominate, you feel like the dominate team.

I was just worried about his recruiting, but if TNVOLS1 is right in saying that he is a top 20 recruiter, I say sign him up!

Comments on Anderson from the Nashville Tennessean:

From the beginning, Anderson, 45, has been someone most felt would be on the Vols' list. He's 65-33 in three seasons at UAB and has won 21 or more games all three seasons.

His UAB team lost in the second round of the NCAA Tournament this season to Arizona after upsetting LSU in the first round.

A year ago, Anderson's Blazers advanced to the Sweet 16 after knocking off Kentucky, the tournament's No. 1 overall seed, in the second round.

Anderson's Blazers play an up-and-down, high-octane brand of basketball with an emphasis on defensive pressure, similar to Richardson's ''40 Minutes of Hell'' at Arkansas. Anderson was with Richardson all 17 years at Arkansas, the final five as assistant head coach.

Richardson credited Anderson with many of the Razorbacks' recruiting successes, including Todd Day, Lee Mayberry, Corliss Williamson, Joe Johnson and Oliver Miller.

I can tell you that the past 3 years with MA coaching the UAB Blazers has been quite a trip. The team is extremely fun to watch. They are well coached and do not let up ever. Mike is also a great recruiter and is an ambassador for not only UAB, but the community as well. The local Big Orange Lunch Bunch highly endorses Mike as our next coach.

"Tennessee has received permission to interview University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee men's basketball coach Bruce Pearl on Friday.

Tennessee did make us aware that they were interested in speaking with Coach Pearl once we were done with the NCAA Tournament," said Kevin O'Connor, sports information director at UWM. "Obviously we would not stay in the way of coach looking into the opportunity and learning more about the situation."

I guess it is on now huh?

I just hope that decide on a GOOD coach soon so we can get to recruiting and keep Lofton before he leaves. Is there anything new out there as far as recruiting is concerned?
