I thought camps had to be closed now to the public and media?

Football: USC is the place to be for Rising Stars camp

On Wednesday and Thursday, USC Coach Pete Carroll will hold his Rising Stars camp, featuring lots of outstanding high school football players.

The big news could be whether Lakewood quarterback Jesse Scroggins comes out of the camp with a scholarship offer. Tennessee and Florida are also pursuing him.

Among players expected to attend are linebacker Hayes Pullard from Crenshaw, receiver Robert Woods from Gardena Serra and defensive back Dion Bailey from Lakewood.

The camp starts at 9 a.m. and is open to the public.

I'm confused... if camps are allowed to be open to the public, then why weren't people allowed to view the UT camp?

The NCAA is asking schools to keep press out. The SECOND is the first to mandate it for their schools. USC plays by their own rules. NCAA has no control over them.

I think if the whole camp is open to the public, media can attend.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Was that way. That's what the rule is trying to prevent. There's no punishment whatsoever for breaking the rule as of now though.

Its not an NCAA mandate yet, only the SEC and big 10 (I think) have installed edicts to enforce it.

but I don't believe there is anything set to keep "the public" out, just the media in the SEC.

But aren't the media part of the public? I mean technically, anyone not associated with the school would be considered public right?
