But why would butch publicly name just the starting RG and no one else? Especially when he is likely to be our worst o-lineman just based on the fact that he's a freshman. Makes no sense to me...

Answer these questions, pay your dues, win a few football games and you can be a head coach too. ;)

Worst O-lineman? Why write off even before the first snap?? He beat out some of the people who were ahead of him in the chart to win a starting job and some rotations were possible because of that.

Robertson might be the best of the bunch.

All the players have a pretty clear picture of where they stand at this point. Naming him first and publicly is probably Butch trying to give a freshman a big dose of confidence.

You have no idea how good He is but as expected it starts already. Sad.

It could be a recruiting tactic. If I were a highly sought after recruit this would be very good thing for me to see. Showing that talent and work ethic supersedes seniority and that recruits can earn early playing time based on performance would be very appealing to me if I were a top tier recruit.

I can think of several legitimate reasons:

1. Recruiting: makes the pitch that you can have early playing time more real

2. Motivation: other people got beat out by this freshman. Think they'll take it lightly?

3. Confidence: Jashon is a freshman. Perhaps Butch wanted to show Jashon he trusts him by publicly naming him the starter. I'm sure that would help build Jashon's confidence as a freshman starter on the line.

4. Transparency: I'm sure Butch realizes how concerned UT fans are about the OL. By naming Jashon the starter publicly, he is being transparent with the fan base and showing us what he thinks is the best possible OL.

Of course there are other possibilities, this is just what I could think of.

I tweeted Butch to hurry up with the depth chart. Yw

This staff has never released a depth chart except in the few days leading up to a game. I don't understand why everybody got their hopes up for a depth chart the past week or so. You'll get it late next week.

Eh...when all is said and done we may have several positions where a freshman is the best.

I understand that but in a line of scrimmage league like the SEC is, if your best offensive Lineman is a true freshman converted defensive lineman Whos never played a single snap of college football, you're ****ed.

No offense OP but who cares? We know who the offensive starters are already and I'd wager virtually anybody on here outside of Nationdom could list the D starters too.
