...any institution (in this case the Catholic church) telling me that I am not a Christian if I am not a member of THEIR church. I would even propose that most Catholics themselves are NOT Christians. If they are then it is in spite of the church and the teachings associated with salvation, not because of the teachings.
The Bible says that salvation is a personal relationship with JC and is a free gift that is given upon acknowledging that we (individually) are sinners and are lost and undone without Him. After this confessing our sins and asking Him to be our Lord and Savior. The Catholics do not teach anything about a personal relationship with God. They rely on the priest to be the representative between them and God. I will make no apologies for this post, because again, not only do the Catholics have the methodology backwards, they espouse that if anyone is not a member of the universal Catholic church then they are not a Christian - complete misinterrpretation of the Scripture.
Because of the depictment of Catholics in Hollywood in movies and on sitcoms and the perception that is given that they have the market conered on God, etc., the gerneral unbelieving American community is lulled into the misconception that Catholics are "the Christians". Just a few words to ponder from a Vol fan and a Christian !!

Profanity is offensive, but Jethro's blanket statements are just as profane. What a useless thread . . . :shakehead:

Well another Catholic here. Why am I responding to this? Jethro is certainly an appropriate name. Sounds like his roots are in Alabama.

OTOH 'roun these parts the Baptists and the C of C ers are quite quick to point out that us RC ers are goin' straight to hades. So what's the difference? Its sad that most Christian religions are driven by man and not the Lord himself.

heard of seperation of church and state? how about seperation of church and the Volnation? aren't there enough holy wars in the world without starting one in here? My interpretation of the scriptures and your interpretation may not be very different but that does not mean we are right... only God knows what is in our hearts and he knows despite what religion we follow.... judge not lest yee be judged!

Okay, this post is...er... interesting, but let's not forget, "judge not, lest thou be judged"

No one can truly know another's heart. Only God can.

The only thing I do know is that "a house divided can not stand".... therefore, IMHO, anything that is divisive among Christians has to be the work of Satan. :naughty:

I don't have much of a chance.... both my dad and my brother are methodist preachers. If I got caught sleeping on the front row, I'd be in real trouble :D

Eh... There are no good methodist churches around here. I go to a Baptist one.

You are with your dad and brother, allvol. You're a preacher of Big Orange!

Go Vols!

-There was a warning on this thread-

My father is also a preacher and I grew up in the Church of Christ. Many religions and churchs don't practice what they preach, we are all humans, but that turns many away from religion. We should not judge and we all should set good example to others and represent all our different religions in a positive way. We could go back and forth for days with our own opinions, even longer than arguments with Notre Dame fans :D and I see nothing wrong with that. Maybe UT needs a touchdown jesus  , totally kidding. :)
