They were talking about if its better to be the 4th 1 seed or the first 2 seed. They went into all kinds of details and statistics but the one thing I didn't see them discuss and it leads me to a question.

I have always thought that the last 1 seed and first 2 seed are in same bracket.... so for all intents and purposes its a moot point. Right? They face each other in the elite 8 if they win out either way assuming they both win out. I am not sure how the other seeds shake out for the bracket but I am pretty sure that's how it works can anyone confirm or deny?

I don’t mean to be an ass, but this has been discussed approximately 500 times in all of the NCAAT/seeding threads on here for the last few months - flip through any of those details. The short answer is that the S-Curve is not a straight snake. Higher ranked teams/seeds get preference on location both in region and in individual first round locations.

I apologize, the article I read was new and I haven't bothered frequenting the seeding threads until now since its relevant now. I did read through some I found here but....as you said there are quite a few but they all get well off topic within the first few pages.

So you're all saying based on some fact the 4th 1 seed does not play in same bracket as the first 2nd seed.. because every bracket I have seen seems to work that way.

Most of those brackets would likely have had UT 4 and Zona 5 both in the west. That’s a coincidence and not a requirement though. If it’s UNC and UT as 4/5 the 4 would be in the West with Zona and the 5 would be somewhere else.

They did that for several years. Recently things have changed as to seeding, location, etc.

Don’t apologize as everyone doesn’t comb through threads.

IIRC, a team will need to win six games to be crowned national champion whether they are a 1 or a 2 seed. I think this whole debate is a lot about nothing.

And, given our tournament history, I’d almost rather not have the pressure of being a 1.

It’s not about nothing. If you look at possible 3 and 4 seeds, you would certainly want to play the 4’s in the Sweet 16. But at the end of the day, you have to win the games in front of you.

My take is that you eventually have to beat some good teams either way. It just doesn’t get me wound up whether we end up as a 1 or 2.

But, it does get me wound up that we are in the discussion…because it means that Barnes has built this into a nationally relevant program.

Momma always told when someone says something and then puts a but in it. Ignore the parts before the but. lol

There’s also the policy that the first four teams from the same conference have to be in different regions, so if Houston is #2 overall and Iowa State is #7, for example, they cannot be in the same region.
I did not know that. Interesting and makes sense.

How dare you ask this question without first having skimmed through thousands of posts to find the answer. Newb.

Mostly agree…but there is a line between good teams and FF level teams.

Soooooo.....if it's not a true snake and we get the first #2 seed, then which region and against which #1 seed do we plan in?

We would be in Houston’s or Purdue’s region.
Gonna be Houston. Just feel it comin'. To my eye, they're the worst matchup among the 1 seeds for us. Then again, if we don't get some help offensively for Knecht and ZZ, we likely won't have to worry about facing them.

#1 Seeds are a mute point right now unless we dominate the SEC tourney
