Holy crap, we got walloped! That's the ugliest game we've played all year. I concede that Mizzou is better than I thought.
That said, we lost this game not because Missouri is the "2nd best team in the SEC", but because Gary Pinkel came in with an excellent game plan. They exploited our Achilles' Heel more thoroughly than any other team this year.
We can't defend against outside speed or mobile QBs. I only watched the first three quarters (too depressing to sit through beyond that), but what I saw was Mizzou target our weakness nearly every single play.
Dobbs struggled a bit, but that didn't really surprise me. People are putting too much faith in our Freshman QBs. Butch wasn't holding them back just to save their redshirts. He's holding them back because they aren't ready and Worley is our best QB right now.
Is there any reason for optimism? Absolutely! Outside speed has killed us time and time again this season. We're losing because we need more talent, speed, and depth on D. That can be fixed with a few great recruiting classes. Likewise, Dobbs' poor play looks more like lack of experience. I expect our QB play will improve next year.
I'm still with Butch and think he'll turn us around! Most of the sports writers had us going 5-7 or 6-6 this season. Virtually no one picked us to upset South Carolina or Georgia (who we were within an inch of beating). The 1st year is always the toughest in a turnaround job. We knew it was going to be a bumpy ride.
I was wrong about Mizzou, but I've seen no evidence that UT is wrong about Butch! He'll get us back to competing again. It's not a straight path and we're going to have huge ups and downs in the meantime.
GO BUTCH and GO VOLS!
