each offensive rebound for Pitt yesterday. I may have missed a couple, but here's a blow by blow. I used the minute mark in the 2nd half for better clarification.
First half
#1 and #2--Early in. Hall got manhandled. Had position. Allowed putback over him. Slow and little effort.
#3--Awkward kick. Lucky bounce. We had position
#4--Yemi had position. Ball it the low front of the rim. Awkward kick. Tough ball.
#5--This could be classified as rotation. However, Miller was there, right in the middle of the lane. All he needed to do was take a step or two to box or get in position. He stared at the ball, the man, and the putback.
#6, 7--Yemi went for the backside block. His man rebounded. May have counted for 2, but not sure. He either has to get the block, or stay in the position he was in.
#8--Maymon got outfought. He had position, but didn't make a play on the ball.
#9,10--After Millers great block. He and Hall just kindof stared as their 2 guys got after the ball. The missed an easy one and hit the follow.
2nd half
#11,12--Hall and Maymon have their butts on guys, but that's it. No play on the ball
12:00 mark--Hall has position, but makes no play on the ball. Maymon comes for a backside block again and Hall watches the backside rebound
8:00 mark--again, Hall has position, but the guy on his butt gets the rebound
6:00 mark--Long board off a 3 over Maymon. Got beat to the ball
5:00 mark--Washpun stood at the ft line and stared as his man goes from the key to get the board and a layup
4:00 mark--on a fast break follow
After watching just defensive possessions, as others have noted, boxing out isn't the problem. It appears that we have a couple that think their job is done once they get position. We have starers, which leads to a couple of rotation issues, and we have starers that just don't box their man or move. On the majority of the boards, we had position. We are just slow to make a play or anticipate. At least they are being coached to box and doing it. We just need a couple of guys with ball skills to go get the damn thing.
