With over 2,400 votes Rees MacShara wins the LEX18 Raising Canes 2009 Player of the Year. Macshara had an unbelievable senior campaign with 3,073 yards on the ground and 43 touchdowns. Macshara is as tough as running backs come and he has the uncanny ability to see the field. He is a bright kid with a very bright future in front of him.
Rees was a front runner for Mr. Football but fell just short in the voting. Currently Rees is undecided about college but wants to keep on playing football. Rees finished with 2,376 votes out of 4,854. Dominique Hayden was second with 1,585 votes. Lamar Dawson for Boyle County was third with 386. Bryan Station's Tevin McCaden finished with 275. Lafayette's Eric Shaw Jr. was in fifth place with 232 votes.

With those stats, no doubt he is a nice player. I don't know how fast he is but I did check and see that he is a 1 star from Kentucky.
At 5'10" 180 he would be a little small for SEC football. I don't know who is recruiting him but that can be very telling as well. If he does not have other top 25 or top tier teams offering him then I doubt we would be considering him. There is the walk-on option, etc. I am guessing that he will end up playing at a smaller school and wish him great success where ever he lands.

He looked small from the photo...if you are 180 lb running back, you better be fast or you will get killed in the SEC.

Yeah maybe somebody like UTC could get him. He's a little small to be a RB in the SEC. Does he play D as well? Maybe he could be used as a safety.

Yeah he goes to school with my daughters at Boyle Co High School....same school Jacob Tamme went to....Remember him he now plays for the Colts....This kid may not be big, but he can read the field better than any back I have seen. He will make some school pay for passing him by (count on it)...Louisville has started showing some interest in him...He will be another Cobb...mark it down....

I will have to say that I watched Cobb in high school and never thought he would be that great at the next level, have to say Im wrong. I would take him tomorrow if he wanted to come to UT..,IMO...i agree with posts before mine though 180 is very little for SEC (especially RB) his body couldnt take being an every down back like a Hardesty. Sounds like a nice fit for Cumberland College.

Not sure about that....He went up against some big guys....Lexington Catholic...Lone Oak academy....Bell County....big time players he handle with ease....check out his stats in each game....I would like someone to pick him up besides Kentucky...Kentucky will start showing interest in him now that Louisville is talking with him....He is smart player....(very smart).....You don't have to be big, just able to read the field good and fast....

Wrong sport...I don't even know the kids parents....My cousin is one of the assistants on the team, And I have just followed his success throughout his high school career....I would just like to continue following him with a team I love than to see someone other school get a steal (aka Kentucky)....

6 for 221 4 tds
31 for 350 5td
8 for 101 4td
19 for 247

i know he prob wouldnt make it in the sec but those stats are crazy

I don't know anything about the kid but some of the comments I'm reading are kind of dumb.

He is too small? I guess our fan base got drunk and forgot about our game against Ole Miss. 29 touches for 324 yards and 4 touchdowns... 165lb Dexter Mccluster.

He can't be good in the SEC because he is white? Tim Tebow holds the rushing record for touchdowns. Peyton Hillis from the University of Arkansas was doing a good job with Broncos prior to his injury.

Being small and white may not be the ideal running back but never underestimate heart and determination. If Utah can beat an SEC team that ran the table during the regular season, then it's not impossible for a little white running back to be good. He'd still have a big talented line blocking for him.... Utah was smaller and had more white players than Alabama. Didn't seem to stop them from beating Alabama.

Thank you.....He is fun to watch....The kid has tremendous heart. The kid had over 3000 yards of rushing his senior year alone....

McCluster is also probably one of, if not the fastest and quickest players in the country.

Tebow is a QB. He also weighs over 240. Thats kinda the exact opposite of this guy.

Peyton Hillis weighs something like 245 or 250 from what I remember.

The exceptions don't equal the rule.

He's about Nukeese Richardson's size...I think most scouts take it for granted that white RB's can't play at the same level as their black counterparts.

Every now and then, that proves to be wrong...such as Toby Gerhart who came in 2nd in Heisman balloting...and our own Channing Fugate (he'll likely be a FB, but the kid can run with the ball...in his highlight reel, you could see him tilt his head down and turn on the jets..he'll be fun to watch, for sure).

But I think his size and race is what keeps him rated so low, despite his production.
