With Fulmer. It is the slow part of the year and there is not much to report, it is by gones and all that but reading all the stuff about when/if we will be relevent again makes me want to understand where it all went to hel. I would love to get a few drinks in Fulmer and let him open up about how he let the program rot. Would he admit apathy? Will he admit he felt entitled? Would he blame administration or other coaches? Would he say that he would have fixed it?

Since we have no idea if we will really compete for the SEC again I can't help but want to know what the hel happened? This is not supposed to happen to NC winning coaches. When a big program struggles it is usually after the great coach retires. What happened???

Fulmer doesn't drink

Pretty positive this is false. At the very least, he'll enjoy a glass of wine. I've been at weddings where he's been there dancing until the end with all the drunk folks.
I've also had this conversation with him...sort of. He still loves the University and realizes he made a bad hire his last year. He is a UT fan.

Mike Hamilton is a terrible manager and leader. That is what happened.

Fulmer would have fixed it. Recruiting disadvantages caught up with him as well as poor choices on assistant coaches.

He would say that things began to go south when Dickey retired and Hamilton took over.........

"Not supposed to happen to a NC winning coach"

Well, look at Chizic and Tressell, they won National Championships and both are gone. Chizic was fired and Tressell was encouraged to quit....

Ole Mikey was not able to take the pulse of the football program like Dickey. You have to wonder how things might have played out for CPF is Dickey had still been AD.

Fulmer had some bad recruiting years, weather apathy or disadvantage i recruiting I am not sure... but did not recruit to his former standard.

He then let the pressure to fix the problem (coming from Hammy) get into his head, so he tried to become a coach he was not. Fulmer was a good coach, and had he been given the chance, and he stayed with what he knew....he would have fixed the issues in a couple of years.... that is my belief...not sure about his

Didn't hear of any school at any level offer Fulmer any kind of coaching job.

I wonder just how much of that stems from the fact that Fulmer's love of UT was so well known that AD's around the country just couldn't see past it... Also, we will never know what kind of (and if so, how many) lower level jobs Fulmer may have turned down.

How, and when was he going to start? 17-16 in conference play his last four years. Why didn't he start four years previous to his termination? He didn't see it coming, didn't know the talent disparity, not very perceptive?

He would say he could have gotten back to the top. And he would be wrong.

And what proof is there that he wouldnt? After every "bad year", he came back with 9 wins. He very easily would've had 9 in '09. He wouldn't have lost to Auburn or UCLA. That's 9 wins right there.

Swing by Krispy Kreme at 8am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm, and 10pm and chat away!

The answer to what happened is pretty simple. Phil got caught up in being so successful, that he forgot to recruit quality players those last few years. If you dont fight to stay on top, someone will fight to replace you

I think he would have done better then this mess we have been in since 2008. Some of the best players we had on the team for the last few years were Fulmer's recruits, so I don't think he did that bad, and Kiffin ran off the star Quarterback for Clemson that Fulmer recruited.

A lot of people forget how tough it is to win in the SEC, its hard to stay on top, and before someone says look at bama, there is one nick dont like him but you got to give him credit.

You're using history to make this argument. I'll use history to make mine. For starters, Fulmer never had back to back losing seasons. Second, he never had back to back <7 win seasons. Third, when he had a 7 or less win season, he responded with 9 or more win seasons. Next, his recruiting class was gonna be top 6 in 2008. But as you guys know because y'all are Miss Cleo, that class amounted to nothing even though Fulmer never had a chance to develop them. You use history to make one case. I just gave you 4 facts using the same basis you made your claim.

And he would have gotten destroyed by South Carolina and Georgia. Are you telling me he would have developed Crompton?

And if you're asking for proof that he wouldn't get back to the top, keep in mind that the only way there is through Saban and Spurrier...and go look up his record against them.

Alternately, let me know how many SEC titles he's won in this millennium.
