For arguments sake let's say that AL beats LSU in the NCG. Nothing would be settled. We all know that LSU is a better team than AL based on 11/5/2011. This is not double or nothing. AL lost in a, albeit flawed, college footbal playoff. AL would not be able to claim a NC if they were to beat LSU in a rubber match. Let the conference champions play. AL's argument should be with it's geographical location and conference alignment, not anything else. Logic should prevail.

The regular season is not the playoffs. No matter how you or the BSC-supporting media spin in.

I loathe the BCS. Contrary to your opinion, we have made the regular season a playoff.

The BCS NC will be decided and trophy awarded. All the teams agreed to this system years ago instead of a playoff so they dont have an argument. Some other pole may still vote LSU/Standord/OK State, but there not the real NC!

The AP poll just came out. OSU received 22 2nd place votes and AL received 38 2nd place votes. If the Harris poll and coaches poll follow similar suit then OSU will be playing in the NCG. According to multiple sources, OSU only needs to receive 25% of the 2nd place votes in order to secure the #2 spot in the BCS. This is because OSU is all but assured to jump AL in the computer rankings. We will see. It should be an interesting evening.

Wolfe and Sagarin polls have reportedly put Bama ahead. Looking more and more like a rematch.

I presume you meant coaches poll because the AP means nothing to BCS rankings

What I meant was that if the AP is any indicator of the Harris and coaches poll, then we will have OSU as #2. The way that the BCS works is not all or nothing. Teams are ranked according to % of votes received in the polls. If OSU receives enough 2nd place votes, they could have enough of a lead in the computer polls to overcome what they lack in the human polls. It is complicated.

That is why we play the games. By using that logic, lets just make it best of 3, or hell lets just go best of 7. It has to stop somewhere. In major college football anyone that is decent has a shot at beating another team any given day.

Two computer polls have reportedly ranked Bama at #2, which makes it very tough for OSU to get into the NCG. Most projections that put OSU in the title game had zero to one computer polls ranking Bama ahead.

It's going to be close, but Bama is looking like they're going to be in. The 25% number is thrown off by the supposed Wolfe computer ranking.

I can't remember who said it, but if it truly is an Alabama-LSU rematch, the AP should award the national championship to LSU, regardless of what actually happens.

Barring an absolute thrashing by Alabama, I agree.

Alabama looked like the better team on the field back on 11/5 even though they lost on the scoreboard. I not sure your statements carrys much weight.

Pretty sure OSU's only hope was the human polls. Bama was projected to be ahead of OSU in the computer polls. The human polls putting Bama ahead of OSU pretty much seals the deal for a rematch.

Incorrect.

Most of the computers were expected to put OSU ahead in the rankings. Everyone expected Bama to remain ahead in the human polls, simply due to perceived SEC strength and the fact that they were up there to begin with- OSU only needed to close the gap a certain amount (which they seem to have mostly done, still waiting on Harris) and get computer poll support to bypass Bama. It all really hinges on a pair of computers- Wolfe and another that I can't remember.

Wolfe reportedly ended up voting Bama ahead. Sagarin was the only one that was almost expected to keep Bama ahead, and it did. That's two computer polls for Bama, which is at least one more than expected (most thought OSU would be ahead in either all of the computer polls or all but one). Wolfe's ranking could end up killing OSU's chances, assuming the reports are correct. Whichever team gets in, it's going to be very, very close.

The crazy thing is that the Harris Poll isn't going to be released until after the selections are made.

So how did the computer polls shake out? All I had heard before the polls came out on the radio was Bama would be ahead in the computers and the human polls would be OSU's chance. I know we know Bama got the nodd for #2 in the BCS, but how did the computer polls end up?

Wolfe and Sagarin went for Bama, all of the others went for Oklahoma State. State averaged 2.25 in the computer polls, Bama 2.75.

Bama had the edge in both Harris (.9391 to OSU's .9148) and Coaches (.9485 to .9268) to have a BCS average of .9392 (to OSU's .9305).

Basically, it was very close, and, as I said, the Wolfe ended up being what crapped all over OSU's chances.
