Here are two entirely useless stats for your viewing pleasure:

1. This is the third year in a row Tennessee has played on August 31

2. Tennessee is 4-0 when playing on August 31.

1996 W, 62-3 UNLV
2002 W, 47-7 Wyoming (N) @ Nashville, Tennessee.
2012 W, 35-12 NC State (N) @ Atlanta, Georgia.
2013 W, 45-0 Austin Peay

Historically, when was the last time we lost a season opener in Neyland?

1983 vs #10 Pittsburgh. Lost 13-3.

(Home opener alone - not necessarily the first game of the season - 1994, against Florida.)

(Tennessee also tied UCLA in the 1985 opener at Neyland.)
