He would be going hard after John Wall right now.. Pearl and the staff are obviously looking to see if they can add some pg help for the 2009 class and I see no reason to not give it a shot and go hard after him

If Kiffin was aour basketball coach we would be the worst free throw shooting team in the nation. Did anyone see him shooting those free throw? lol Gotta love Kiffin. Did Fulmer ever do anything like that?

A lot easier to recruit top kids when you're talking about Tennessee football and its tradition. Tennessee football more or less - sells itself to recruits (although not as well recently).

Recruits in basketball are always going to have the Kentucky's/UNC's/UCLA's/etc on their interest list before they are even being recruiting anyway. We'll always be a step behind.

I understand your point - but easier said than done - what makes you think Pearl never contacted him to begin with? I'm sure he got a "thanks, but no thanks".

To the OP question, our team would suck. Did you see him trying to shoot FTs?

So we're a step behind Baylor, Memphis and Texas too?.. I would think that the sole thought of a guaranteed starting pg spot for a team with one of the top 5 largest arenas in the nation would be enough to atleast get him thinking about it

Not that big of a deal - our basketball arena is big - but size... meh - I'll take quality and great supporting fan base over a big arena. It is decent - but still could have been constructed a lot better to begin with to create a better environment. 21,500 or however many is still slightly too many for UT basketball - we sell out the big games but still only get 15,000 or so for the average games. Would be nice if we could enclose it even more but probably can't happen.

And I'm pretty sure John Wall is not concerned with someone guaranteeing him a starting spot.

I'm not saying we can't recruit kids like these - but we start behind to begin with usually or we don't have as many that like us without us contacting them. Ex - the highly rated prospect out of Washington (Tony Wroten Jr. I think) or where ever that likes us. We didn't really do anything to create that interest - he just liked us. We don't have as many of those kids compared to the bigger schools.

Pearl can't come in this late like that and get a kid of his caliber. Part of that may just be Pearl's recruiting - the other part is just the overall tradition. Just like a 2 years ago when CBG was hired at Kentucky - he came in an got a top 10, 5 star player in just a few months in Patrick Patterson due to his recruiting ability and the fact that it was Kentucky.

No, but like I said in another thread if Fulmer had done it he would've just held onto the ball until it was a senior.

he wouldn't be considering Baylor if they didn't hire his coach.

Its all good next year we have Daniel West. He is blazing fast on the court and I hope has been doing some practing on things he will need to be able to do next year.
pass+penetration=High scores.
I'm tellin ya Bruce Pearls Offense would be amazing with a Dynamic point guard who can drive to the basket and make plays happen.
Maze does it on occasion. Ramar never did it successful, he had to many turnonvers.
Here is to hoping West will be the help we need.
