I stole this from somebody else, but, here it is:

If LSU wins tonight, and goes 14-0, their wins will include:

- 2 wins over 2nd ranked (both times) Bama (11-1)
- 40-27 win over then #3 Oregon and Rose bowl champ (12-2)
- 47-21 win over then #16 and BigE and Orange bowl champ WVU (10-3)
- 41-17 win over then #3 and Cotton bowl champ Arkie (11-2)
- 42-10 win over #12 and SEC east champ UGA (10-4)
- 41-11 win over then #17 and Gator bowl champ UF (7-6)
- 45-10 win over then #19, Chick-fil-A bowl champ and reigning MNC Auburn (8-5)
- 19-6 win over then #25 and Music City Bowl champ Miss St (7-6)

Is they pull it off, are they the greatest team of all time?

others to consider:

95 Nebraska
01 Miami

Not sure I'd take either over them though.

Just my take, those are things you might talk about 10 years from now. IMHO As far as the schedule, probably one of the toughest in the modern era and still undefeated (still one to go).

Next year's team might have something to say about this year's team claiming to be the best. On paper LSU should be much stronger in 2012-2013, but games are not played on paper.

I am pretty proud of the boys, win or lose tonight, very good year, could be legendary year with another win over Saban.

They will be in the discussion with 95 nebraska. That 01 miami team produced like two dozen pro bowlers though. This lsu roster will match that number in guys just making the cut in the league.

Considering the schedule, how might next year's compare? Is there even a slight chance they play as many ranked teams? I'll also add that this group ended their season last year by curb stomping my Ags in a Cotton Bowl. We were ranked then.

The entire body of work is impressive. I'll add that defeating the likes of Nick Saban (arguably the best in the business currently) should carry some merit too.

The schedule is easier for sure. Basically on paper we lose Claiborne to the draft early, the OL probably gets hit the worse, everyone else basically intact.

I said a few years ago out here the 2012 was going to be pretty damn tough, nothing has changed my mind on that.

Would have to be top 2, based on who they beat, how badly they beat most, and where they beat teams--at bama, at wvu, at oregon.

The 1995 Nebraska Cornhuskers beat four postseason top ten teams by an average score of 49-18. Postseason, meaning they still finished in the top ten at the end of the year despite getting crushed by Nebraska. In non-Nebraska games, those teams had a combined record of 42-3.

With the exception of the 2001 Canes having a small case, no one else even has an argument IMO.

'11 LSU's resume is better than all but a few teams in the entire history of the sport. I would certainly say they are the best in BCS era, but it's really tough to compare teams from different eras.

I'd agree LSU is the best team ever if they win tonight. Defense is tougher than the 01 Canes and no way Nebraska could get away running that option on this defense. No denying it's one of the fastest defenses and there is absolutely no weaknesses. I hate it but ehh I'd say yes.

First of all, Nebraska dominated for decades, so I highly doubt there was any defense that could truly stop them cold.

Second of all, it's not about how teams would match up with each other. There's a huge era bias there that ruins the entire concept of greatness. It's about results and the overall profile of the teams - and LSU's profile doesn't top Nebraska's.

the number of pros a team produces - or how those pros perform at the next level - isn't necessarily a direct correlation to how good the team in question is

The place a team assumes in history is about who they beat and how. It has nothing to do with what certain players did in the pros.

If LSU wins tonite, they will rightly be ranked very high in any historical context even if none of their players make any impact in the NFL.

Can't get too far up that list with very limited offense and dilution now evident across the game.

I think there's some truth to that. But their body of work is really impressive, even if the overall game is somewhat watered down.
