What's to stop them from offering Bruce a little less than that? I can't think of a better fit from their perspective. He would inject excitement they desperately need. From his perspective he would be back in the northeast, coaching in the Garden, and in the Big East. This worries me more than any position that has come over in his tenure.

We need to stop these threads linking Pearl to every coaching vacancy in the country. He has done an excellent job at TN, but every school in the country is not looking to hire him.

I'm not worried about every job. I haven't been concerned about any job other than Indiana since he got here. St. Johns has everything he would want if he were ever to leave here.

Valid points, Titanic, but the "will Bruce leave" threads have overtaken the "coach X" threads for most dreaded on the board.

I think Bruce will be with us until a top 5-10 job opens up. I don't think St. Johns falls in that category. I think we've managed to claw our way into a top 20 program classification (thanks to Bruce).

I think instead of wondering with every vacancy we can just compile a list of schools Bruce would go to, then when a school not on the list opens up we don't need to open a thread about if Bruce is leaving.

Maybe just one "Sky is Falling" thread and everybody post there??

Or we could just make one "Bruce wuvs us and hugs us and pets us and will never leave Knoxville" thread and have all of you post there. I'm not saying he's leaving, but there is room for discussion. That's a program in the heart of NYC that needs a salesman as much as it needs a coach, and Bruce is an outstanding fit. You all sound like the Minnesota fans who are POSITIVE Tubby Smith will never leave them.

I like that idea, you should start a thread for it.

Not everybody loves the glitz and glamor and bull**** of New York.

Have you ever seen Bruce Pearl? For some reason I think the idea of coaching in the greatest basketball city in the world wouldn't exactly render him incapable of speech.

He said he wasn't leaving publicly. I don't think he's leaving. It doesn't make sense for him to leave to go to a basketball-dominant school. He can't do what he does here PR wise at high profile schools IMO.

I certainly hope you're right.

Go to the Big East and have to scrap every year to get in the top 5 alone b/c the talent is spread out so well there. On the other hand. Stay in the S.E.C. and easily be in the top 3 year in and out and tourney bound to boot. I think he knows what he has going here. We jus got our reputation built up enough for top recruits to at least consider us now. Why scrap all that?

In fact get us to a Championship game or Final Four before we even think about paying him tons more then Dooley....This IS still a football school in the eyes of most Vol fans and the nation. Am I right?

UT is not going to lose a coach to money. If anything, we err on the side of paying coaches too much. If a program that CBP prefers (for other than $ reasons) comes along, then we should worry. Otherwise, I'd give it a rest.

With what he has built here....the freakin class he has coming in next year....love of our fans....and I would say the money is or will be about right...a raise after this year and better contract......he would be crazy to leave. Now I have no idea if his wife likes it here but Steve is not a senior is he? Lots of reasons to stay. He is building something special...has worked his butt off to get us here sure hope he stays forever! This is also part wishful thinking…..I know what he has recruited is going to be crazy the next few years….unless Tibias is one and done crazy good. :clapping:

I for one would like to see Cousins stay a year so we can compare these 2 next year with eachother. Cousins is a beast and Tobias appears to be one also. Jus seeing them go at eachother will let me know how much of a BAD A$$ Harris truly is next year(if he truly is a 1 and done).

It might be a bit presumptuous to think BP wants to be back in the NE. He has been gone from there for a long time.

That really isn't relevant. Knoxville and Tennessee are very protestant, so religion isn't an issue.

St. John's is a private Catholic school, where students have religion classes, church service requirement, UTK is not. While I know it isn't a requirement to be a catholic coach, they definitely see it as a plus.
