If Strong says no we have to hire Petrino

If Petrino goes into Oregon and UF next year and gives them a good game and beats or almost beats them the fan base will get behind him and everything that happened will be forgotten except by our rivals who will remind us every now and then...But honestly who cares as long as we are winning games.

I agree would you rather have the embarrassment of every coach you offer turning you down or a coach who cheated on his wife. With a cople of wins all his wrong doing would be forgotten.
I don't care about Bobby Petrino's personal life... People have done much worse things than cheat on their wives...

YES! The guy is a damn good coach, and has proven that he can win. I'm sure he has cleaned up his act by now.

Yep he's desperate for another chance.. He's already proven he's a winner.. He's the best option out there as far as winning now.. Either that or just hire Kirby Smart and hope for the best... Because Charlie Strong isn't worth 4 million a year.. Tennessee can get a better coach for less...

I totally agree, Strong is not worth 4 million...We still got a few out there to check out before settling on Smart, Got Tressel, Butch Davis and Petrino out there and available...Any of those 3 would be a good hire imo.

You are right I am sure Smart would take if offered.

If you think the fanbase is divided now, just wait for a scenario where Petrino is our coach. A lot of UT fans won't stand for it and will walk away from the program and take their $$$ with them.

Of course, winning will cure that over time; several years at least. The only good thing about a Petrino hire is that you'd be able to get him cheap and force him into a contract that is very favorable to the university.

Hart should be working on them now if he hasn't all ready.

Don't judge the man on mistakes he has made in his personal life. What the hell does that have to do with coaching football? He's only human.

Yeah me to and as far as I know he has not had any NCAA issues. What he did is moraly wrong but not a crime and nothing that has not been done before.

All this stuff about parents not wanting their kids to play for BP is crap they are only interested in a coach that can get them to the NFL.

Name his NCAA violations or link the article.

Not an NCAA problem with Petrino. He gave his unqualified mistress a high paying position in the Arky athletic department. That kind of behavior opens the institution up to all kinds of lawsuits. There's not a university president in the nation willing to take that chance.

They wouldn't walk away.. They'll support the team no matter what.. Petrino needs a job. Tennessee needs a proven winner in this conference.. He's it.

If we miss on Strong, and we don't go with Petrino or Tressel, then I would try and get Freeze from Ole Miss. He has a little HC experience and has won in the few years he has had. Or someone like him (not sure who that would be off the top of my head, Malzahn was the other I had thought about, but gone now).

Last resort go with an unproven Coodinator (Smart, Roman, Diaco, etc) types.

I hope Hart has his guy, or has an option we haven't talked about.

Then you aren't checking too well.

Dooley proved he could not coach. He also proved twice now that he can build a program foundation. If you can look at UT's roster now and say the situation is no better than it was 3 years ago.... then no one can help you.

Petrino is a job hopper and is now known for it. Regardless of the reason, when a guy moves around as much as he has then you don't want him.

More importantly, what parent or coach is going to trust a kid they care about to Petrino?

Of all the names mentioned, Petrino would be the absolute worst hire. Bringing Fulmer back would be incredibly stupid... but still better than hiring Petrino.

Our roster might be improved but we have been under .500 the last 3 years. I'd rather have a guy who does more with less than less with more. He's not hopping anywhere with the contract he'd be forced to take. I think it's pretty evident from this coaching search our situation is worse 3 years later. He's no saint but he wins football games and the bottom line is that's what we're paying him to do.

I will agree he is a gamble but in this case what is the bigger gamble a unproven coach or one that was unethical in his personal life. The program is at a croosroads and must win soon or the fanbase will abandon them.

He is attainable, cheap, and can win. I don't think he would be stupid enough to get into anymore trouble. This would be his shot at redemption, plus one more screw up he would be done for good.

Yes and he would accept a contract that force him to stay here and stay out of trouble.

I don't care about his personal life. His unprofessional hiring practices, however, lead to big time lawsuits. I don't care how many women, or men for that matter, he needs for his sexual appetites. It's when he starts hiring his bed buddies who aren't qualified for the job I get nervous.

Fedora is not coming--just took the UNC job--so hire Petrino and draft a contract that is fair to him and good for us RE buyouts. One more screwup and he'll be cleaning houses for a living--and he knows it.

If not Strong or Petrino, then hire Chavis. Seriously. I would by happy with Chavis--VFL and damn good coach.

Should have been your AD's first choice to begin with. And a response to another thread, no, Strong is not worth the bidding war. Promise!

Do we really want to offer/hire a guy that Kentucky turned down? He came out and stated that he had interest in the KY job and would go there. They quickly said "thanks, but no thanks." I know we're in a bad spot, but would we seriously consider hiring a coach that was not good enough for KY? I'm being dead serious here.
