I was looking at the other lists of coaches and wondered if Tennessee pulled the checkbook out and wanted to go after an active coach which one would they go after. Like someone said if you put the money out there anyone would come.

Peterson - 1.7 million
Leach - 2.25 million
Beamer- 2.278 million

Not sure about the other four, but I think Patterson is already making around 3. At least that's the best guess I've seen since TCU is a private school and doesn't release salaries.

Amazing how people here feel like money solves everything. Tennessee is one of about 50 schools with huge money. We have no more money than Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, LSU and so many others.

It's not just a matter of getting out the "checkbook". Many schools would be able to match an offer.

Of the list the OP gave, Peterson and Patterson are the only two who excite me and although UT could afford the big salary easier than TCU or BS, I believe they would match offers up to about 4 million and at that point Im not sure they are worth it anyway.

Only way to land Patterson is to offer 4.25 million for 5 years and guarantee the whole deal. No buyout, he gets the whole 21.25 million no matter what happens. If you want to land the big time coaches, you have to put it on the line.
