IF .... The BCS computer rankings were still in use for the Four Playoff Teams

Interesting read about how the old BCS computer rankings would have ranked the Top 5 Teams
1. Michigan
2. Washington
3. Alabama
4. Florida State
5. Texas

It ranks Alabama's win over Georgia higher than Texas' win over Alabama
Interesting indeed and I think the metrics work out. Statistically the win over an undefeated team on a 29 game winning streak is huge.

I’ve said the computer is better than the committee, but it’s still far from perfect. Conference championship games are over blown. Why is a neutral site win worth more than an away win? Maybe it isn’t - maybe the people who interpret the unseen results are the problem. Alabama had a tougher schedule than Texas. That’s the only reason they should be ahead of Texas. I don’t think it’s enough reason to ignore the head to head record. I don’t know how FSU fits between the two schools either. Is a win against #1 really that much more impressive than beating #5? That’s silly considering the rankings change weekly.

I would have preferred this over what the committee did. FSU got royally screwed.

I’d love to see a top 6 or top 8 system (12 is way too many) using the BCS to determine instead of some random old people who probably don’t watch the games.

I'm not sure what to make of a narrow neutral-site win over a team excluded from the playoffs counting more than a decisive road win against a team included in the playoffs.

A team with back to back nattys, a 28 game win streak and the consensus #1 ranked team in the nation? That team?

The only win streak that matters in that formula is the win streak from this season. There’s zero weight given to prior year performance.

I truly think the committee used the SEC and PAC12 Championship games as College Football Playoff Quarterfinals. I think UGA would beat Bama if they faced them again, and I think they would beat everyone in the 4 team CFP, especially one that everyone is feeling so sorry for.

I would like to see the Huskies win it all…only team in the CFP that I don’t despise.
Washington is who I’ll be rooting for. I honestly think I could stomach Bama winning more so than Texas or Michigan. Maybe if Bama wins another title, Saban retires and Bama hires a series of bad coaches and suffers a decade plus of ineptitude.

Anybody but Michigan
