If the resume really matters we should be looking Bronco Mendenhall. This is a coach who:

  • is a defensive specialist who serves as his own DC
  • has 8 years successful head coaching experience
  • overall HC record of 73 - 29 (.716 winning %age)
  • no (zero) losing seasons in 8 years
  • 5 seasons (including 4 straight) with 10+ wins
  • 4 seasons top 20 BCS ranking
  • 5 seasons top 25 coaches poll ranking
  • 5-2 bowl record with wins over Oregon, Oregon State, UCLA, UTEP and Tulsa
  • 46 years old
  • $900,000 annual salary (could be had cheaply)
he's out there, and apparently interviewing for another job.

I was waiting for someone to bring his name up. He is a great coach, and would rebuild the program. However, the natives would get restless real quick, most folks in east Tennessee haven't a clue who he is. I would love to have him here honestly, but it won't happen.

Me too. It's amazing the guy has that kind of record when he has to recruit against the BYU Honor Code. Not too many 18 year old athletes are willing to commit to these standards.

You might be right ... seems all our coaches come out of no where. Mendenhall has all the credentials that Hart has put out there.

He almost beat Notre Dame and Boise State with less talent on the field. So you also know he can coach up his players, but also if you give a coach like him a team like Tennessee. The sky is the limit.
