Assuming LSU ends up beating Arkansas, even with a loss they would more than likely still be #1 in the BCS with wins over Oregon, Bama, and Arkansas. That would mean Alabama, even though they were #2 could not play in Title game, correct? UGA would get the automatic bid, and LSU would take the only other bid. So is it possible we could not have #1 vs. #2 in the BCS, or is there a rule excluding that possibility.

There is an exception to the 2 team limit. If two non-champions from the same conference play in the BCSNCG, then the conference champ gets to go to a BCS bowl (in UGA's case, the Sugar) as well.

This has been discussed elsewhere, but I think an exception exists that would allow 3 teams from the same conference to make the BCS. If UGA upsets LSU, but LSU is still in the top 2 when the final standings come out, they'd still get to play for the title (vs. Bama I'm assuming).

UGA would go to the Sugar Bowl as the SEC champ.

I don't see how there will be a rematch. Especially if oklahoma state beats ou.

If you look at the BCS standings, OSU is will behind all three SEC teams. They'd likely jump Arkansas if the hogs lose to LSU and they beat OU, but they would not get into the top 2. They are so far behind LSU and Bama that as long as LSU doesn't get blown out by UGA, LSU and Bama will play for the title.

I know it's too late for a rule change but you should have to win your conference to play in the BCSNCG.

that was also brought up in 2007 when a similar scenario could have happened (also involving UGA)

someone on an MSU board had figured out that if the right 12 people lose, in just the right games, that Michigan State will go to the National Champ Game. :eek:lol:

Crazier than the UF -v- FSU scenario many moons ago.

Wont happen, but it is kind of cool that there is a .083% change that it could. Better than 0% I guess.

Edit: that % is not real math, dont try to check my numbers. . . I just threw one out there

Nebraska played for the title in 2001 after getting smoked by Colorado and missing the Big XII title game.

Of course, if our beloved Vols had shown up in the 2nd half vs. LSU, Nebraska never would have sniffed the Rose Bowl.....uggggggggh.

Or had Texas shown up against Chris Brown & KSU....some fallings across the board there leading to that situation

Been mentioned, but here:

No more than two teams from any one conference may receive berths in BCS games unless two non-champions from a BCS conference finish as the top two teams in the final BCS standings, in which case they will meet in the National Title Game while their conference champion will play in their conference's BCS bowl game.

And KState upset OU in the Big XII title game and still went to the BCSNCG (where they got housed by USC).

I don't think we all truly understand what an LSU loss against UGA would really mean.

Think about this for a second. This is assuming Bama handles Auburn, which we all believe will happen.

Bama would move to #1 on the BCS and LSU would probably drop to #2 in the BCS.

We would then match up Bama (a team that did not win their own division) vs. LSU (a team that did not win their own conference). UGA (the winner of the "toughest conference in college football") would match up in the Sugar Bowl against an at large bid opponent at best.

Man, I can't wait to see the ESPN talking heads spin that scenario. It will be classic spin.

By no way am I suggesting we deserve to play for a NC if we somehow beat LSU. My point is to show the flaws of college football and the BCS.

Teams win the Basketball championship all the time w/o winning their conference. What's the big deal?

Completely different circumstances. Last time I checked CBB has a 68-team tournament you have to win six games in. CFB doesn't have any kind of playoff whatsoever.

THanks for explaining. I get it now.

I dont think lsu would go to bcs game if they lose to uga.Even if there wasnt a rule against two teams that didnt win their conference.Their would be no repeat of a rematch ala fsu vs gators. And no uga wont play in bcs tital game only sugar bowl. But that isnt going to happen either.

The BCS sucks. Period. There is nothing rational about it. We need a playoff. This 'the regular season IS a playoff' talk is bush league.

If LSU beats Arky today, that win alone will just about place them in the NC game regardless of what happens in the UGA game. No other team in the country comes anywhere near to the resume that LSU has built this year. The only way LSU misses out on a NC is if they fall to Arky and then they fall to UGA in the SECCG. I don't see either happening.

Any bowl game we end up in this year will be much better than the one we played in last year. Its a step in the right direction.
