It looks like the first candidate interviewed is really the second coming of Dave Hart.

Quoting Brian Rice... “The UTAD just spent the last four years undoing a lot of things the Hart administration did and Gilbert was a big part of most of those things.

Second, nothing about his tenure at ECU stands out as spectacular. Their programs have been average to below average in the American since he took over. He hasn’t made a major coaching hire there, the football coach was hired at the same time he was. They also just had a Title IX lawsuit over the treatment and cutting of non-revenue sports.

Third, when he was a part of Hart’s staff, they showed very little commitment to winning in sports other than football and men’s basketball. Other than Barnes, it would not be a popular hire among many of the head coaches.

Just my opinion having been an employee while he was at UT.”

It seems like Mark Ingram is a no brainer, but UT will **** this up, no doubt.

Unless Blackburn has been in verified published problems related to the ncaa he is the one! If phil had not been so glorious he would have been the present ad and we would not be in this mess. JMHO

Probably an unpopular opinion, but HIRE A WOMAN. 2021 is the time. You think a woman can’t get the football team organized? Take yourself and your narrow minded attitude right back to 1970.

Tons of great female leaders in sports and ALL programs deserve an AD who cares about them. I’m fully aware Football is our primary revenue source, but it’s certainly not the only sport that matters to all of our student athletes. Tired of seeing us hire someone specifically to fix football. And then they don’t fix football and all other sports suffer. How about we hire someone to...I don’t know...be an incredible ATHLETICS director?

Question for those aware of the situation back then: did they combine the role of men's and women's athletic directors because of money? Or was that part of a "modernization" effort? Curious what the rationale was

Fulmer didn't care about the LV program, either.

Nope. If he had, he would have fired Holly a season earlier and prevented the media circus that was her last season. Everyone knew the wheels were off and he allowed his personal relationship with Holly to affect his decision making. No secret they were pals. Would have prevented a whole lot of tarnishing of Pat’s legacy if he had stepped up to the plate and fired her when she needed to be. Instead she was given a contract extension I believe. It was nuts.

Finally gently shoved her out when it was clear he had no choice because most of her team and the fan base had turned on her.

Right,, and he gave Pruitt a contract extension also,, both of them were screwing up royaly the last year they were coaches and I never could figure out his logic behind it.
This is just me but I often wondered if he reasoned he gave the contract extensions was he made a secret deal with both of them to get a kickback if they ever were canned.
Knowing they would get big payouts.

Again, this isn't about Fulmer, it's about the next AD. If you care about Women's Athletics you better hope the next AD isn't a Dave Hart disciple that's had a Title IX suit at the school that he's currently an AD at.

Deep state haha. Would not be shocked though. That kind of stuff happens all the time. Whether people want to believe it or not.

Hire the best person for the job. If it's a woman, so be it. If it's not a woman, so be it. I wouldn't find it any more palatable for them to hire a woman because she's a woman, than I would not hiring a woman because she's a woman. Or for them to hire a man just because he's a man. Any of it. Those aren't qualifications for the job. Nuts to it. Hire the best person, whoever they may be.

But that said, hiring someone specifically to fix football is how it is, particularly in the Power 5. When another sport generates 100 million + in donations and revenue a year, it will be the one dictating the sorts of candidates considered for the job. Until then, football calls the shots. Money makes the rules. That's life.

A great job for Pat Summitt had she gotten to retire from basketball on her terms. I certainly think she could have handled the job! <sigh>

I agree we haven't had anyone interested in Lady Vol Basketball lately. We hired a coach that was not a big winner at any other stop, and with our tradition, I think that we can see that was a mistake. She did learn one thing that a timeout sometimes is necessary, but unfortunately it was one game to late.

For example Kara Lawson would be a good AD.

Yes same. I actually thought about this when she announced her illness. Did not realize how quickly that awful disease was going to take her.

I’m not saying it has to be a woman, but I think it’s an avenue they should consider. Seems the AD world is one women have not broken into. It’s really a management position and you are indeed responsible for more than just football. Whomever they hire I hope they have a vision for UT athletics as a whole. Not just the football team.

Sounds like we were paying recruits in McDonalds bags and that wasn’t even getting it done. Maybe hiring someone who will hold them to the standards the should uphold will work better.

Gee, this again. Name one ‘name’ coach that we could have hired without committing $10 million of the UTAD’s money?
