One of my all time favorite players. Yes I am a little biased as I am a Cards fan. But the guy was awsome player.

Got my hands on a copy of it today. His 1948 season is arguably the best individual season in baseball history.
One of the greatest players and human beings ever to play the game.

I'm an unrepentent Barry Bonds fan. That said, I fail to understand why Musial's '48 season never got mentioned when people were asking what seasons were comparable to what Bonds did in '03 and '04. It's as if people focus too much on what a joyful human being Stan the Man is at the expense of what an epic player he was.

Very true. Although I will also say its the value put upon the home run as well. You swap him having the most home runs for doubles or triples in 48 and I think it is viewed in an entirely new light.

A couple of years back a columnist for the Post Dispatch went on a search for the lost home run in 48. There is evidence that the rain out happened but he could not find anything about the game. Its crazy how that one game has completely disappeared from history.

i have a lot of respect for him and have to say as a cardinal hater and baseball lover, i got teary eyed at the all star game a few years back. moments like that make all of that unneeded pregame garbage worth it. good man, wish there were more like him nowadays.
