Fire away, but I doubt Alabama is the number 1 every year. There seems to be a higher number of high 4 and 5* guys that leave there after a couple years.

Other than the QB and RB this year, the rest of their offensive roster didnt seem superior to most other teams. Their OL (had to bring up a Vandy transfer OT this year despite having 5* OTs on their roster) didnt protect as well as in the past, their WRs arent special, RBs other than Gibbs & McCellan werent special, backup QB almost cost them a game vs a losing team (left a 5* QB to watch) and we know their secondary & LBs (other than Anderson) werent real good. Young hid alot of problems this year.

Frankly, when you get to a certain level of athleticism, what's inside a recruit is a key factor to development and success. You can get 5 star kids who are lazy, self centered and self absorbed who never reach their potential and expect things to just keep being given to them. You can get driven 3 stars who have a will to work and be the best they can be who end up taking the brass ring and making the NFL. It's why getting to really know a kid as best you can is so important. From what I'm seeing so far, I suspect Heupel and this staff place just as much emphasis on what's inside a kid as what he does on the field. They simply aren't chasing stars when they recruit it appears. The kid has to be a fit. Gives me hope going forward.

Look up the 247 talent composite. It takes the current roster, and compares it to other teamā€™s current roster, based on initial recruiting rankings. It doesnā€™t take into consideration development, or what year the kids are, but it does add and subtract the ones that came and left. It had our vols at 19th most talented team for 2022. I would say that is about right. We far exceed that ranking with development and scheme this year, where past coaching staffs have under performed their available talent.

A look at under performing teams shows coaching stability is crucial. If you remove all of the teams with 1st year head coaches then UT would be 12th in talent, and only TCU is higher ranked with a 1st year head coach.

Then you have A&M, Texas, UNC, and Auburn. There's your four spots that move you up to 8th. So when you take in to account all of the teams with supposed better talent but facing coaching transitions, then you can see Tennessee finished this year about where they should.

If A&M rallies around Fisher, Quinn Ewers continues development and stays healthy, Drake Maye improves in year 2 for UNC, and the other 1st year coaches see growth in year 2 then I expect Tennessee to finish next season either just inside or outside of the Top 25. Depends on games in the Swamp and when A&M visits Neyland. Florida will be improved next season. Texas will be better. UNC should be better. Oregon and USC battle for the Pac12, Notre Dame won't lose to Stanford or a team like Marshall in year 2 of Freeman, Kelly will have LSU more fundamentally sound and discipline. FSU and Miami are kind of wildcards for me. Hard to imagine 4 ACC teams being better than Tennessee.

Alabama - lack of on field leadership on this years team. Just short of expectations.
Georgia - meeting expectations
OSU - meeting expectations
Texas A&M - Suspect jealousy and character issues prevalent. Disastrous NIL experiment.
Clemson - just short of expectations. Won conference. NY6 bowl. Narrowly missed playoff.
Texas - 1st year QB. Injury issues. 2nd year coach.
Oregon - 1st year coach
LSU - 1st year coach.
Notre Dame - 1st year coach
USC - 1st year coach
Miami - 1st year coach
Michigan - meeting expectations
Florida - 1st year coach
Penn St - meeting expectations
UNC - Played for conference championship but late season collapse sullied season. Lost last 3 games.
FSU - meeting expectations. Close loss to Clemson. Ranked 13th.
Auburn - comical to watch the big money boosters all act like Jerry Jones.
Tennessee - Super Sr QB led best season in 15 years. Defense under performed when it mattered most.
