I don't know, but I do the same thing. My wife doesn't seem to know either. She keeps asking me, but I can't for the life of me come up with an answer.

It's a guy thing.
We know the difference between what's important (VOLS football) and what's not as important (birthdays, anniversaries, etc).
That and we still think farts are funny. It's called being men.
Ummm, my wife thinks it is a little weird that I get excited over recruits committing. She says "i don't get it...they are 16,17, and 18 year old boys....".
Because it's the closest thing to christmas we get. We ask for presents all year (top recruits) sometimes we get some we want all along, sometimes we dont, sometimes they come out of left field, and sometimes we just get socks.
It's because we "love TN" & we want only the best players to play here & we're hoping these players that commit will take TN Vols back to the top of the SEC East.
I'm 33. Why do I act like an 8 year old???
When we get commits? Or when we are on the brink of getting one?
It's a malady that is apparently quite common in the Southeastern United States, and the most 'at risk' group is men between the ages of 18-90. The medical term for the affliction is SuperRabidFanitis. The more common street term is 'batsh*tcrazy'.
I LOVE Tennessee football. I have been known to get physically ill over poor play. I would even turn down sex or my late grandmother's Sunday dinners to watch a game. I find myself very deeply interested in all matters orange on and off the field.
That said, I FREAKING HATE, HATE, HATE recruiting.
I don't mean I hate that kids are recruited. I just hate the way it is viewed by the 'batsh*tcrazy' and how a whole sub-industry has evolved from it.
Having watched the process with adult sensibilities for nearly 30 years, I just can't get into it. I've seen it happen over and over again where a whatever star ends up flaking out, staying hurt or just plain doesn't translate to the college level.
Get them in an orange jersey and a power T and put them on the field. Then, I will support them until the ends of the earth. Until then, I just don't care. Whoever is playing is who I support.
A 2016 commitment? First of all, I think it is laughable that anyone would even comment on such a thing. A 15-16 year old kid can't commit to who he wants to go eat pizza with next week. But beyond that, surely most realize the ENDLESS list of things that could happen between now and whenever he would actually be playing.
I know I am in the minority and will take crap for this. I wear my orange up here with pride, and I occasionally run into another Vol. As soon as they start talking recruiting, I just smile and politely say "I don't keep up with recruiting at all. I am not very interested until they are in school, in uniform and on the field." Most don't appreciate my attitude , and that's fine.
