I'm definitely less concerned now than I was after the OK State loss

First of all, I really didn't know much about Okie State this year and assumed they wouldn't be that great based on what they were last year. They're currently up on NC State by double digits. Whether that holds or not, Okie State is a very good team this year. Second of all, there was improvement across the board versus a solid Massachusetts team. This team will only continue to get better and with Maymon coming back hopefully soon, the sky is the limit for this team.

Bad games happen. People need to realize that. One game, win or lose, is not a great indication of how a team's season will go. Basketball is a game of runs.

That's why you see so many more and bigger upsets than in football.

That Okie State team has at least 2 NBA lottery picks, they're gonna be good. That's what I tried to explain...yes they struggled last year, but when you add a player of Marcus Smart's caliber you're going to improve.

Basketball is different than football. 95% of CBB teams have bad/tough losses. So many games, so many matchups, etc. For example, UT doesn't have anybody to stop a 6'4/220 NBA lottery pick. They just don't have someone with that length who can move their feet on dribble penetration that quick AND has the strength to match up. Now, take a 6'6/180 guy with crazy 3 point range and UT would be good to go defensively.

There's no reason to panic. UT is 3-1. The offense is better. Richardson/McRae have improved immensely. The Vols are shooting it bell. The perimeter D has been very, very good. And all without your most consistent player.

I like where we are.

So you don't like our chances verse UK I'm guessing?

It'll be tough. The key is overcoming those matchups. Had UT shot 40% from the field against Okie State, we probably are 4-0.

UK is always very tough. We'll see what happens. I don't think they anyone on their team that can stop Jarnell.

You predicted atleast one win verse UK right? I know I did.

The UK game will be interesting, we have mismatches that favor us and they have mismatches that favor them.

Assuming we have Maymon our bigs definitely appear to be advantage us, but their wings are impressive. If they're still relying on Polson for big minutes at PG I really like our chances.

I think UK is going to struggle a little without an elite true PG. They're still a great team, but I think we get them once this year.

I missed listening to the OK St game (at work on the dang phone all morning) but when I did finally get to listen in, it was about 5 min left and Ok St up by a lot. It sounded like UT had shots but just could not get them to fall all morning. OK St seems pretty solid though so not a bad loss.

we are going to lose at least 8 or 9 more, so be mentally ready. Let's just see how the team evolves. Some nights, you play bad and lose, which was with ok st. Some nights, you play well and lose, or the other team makes a shot at the end, or one guy lights you up.
It's basketball and a long season. You panic early and you are toast. Save the panic for panic time.

20-10 regular season without Maymon is a solid year. That should get you into the tourney.

This was before Maymon was declared out till January.

No Maymon I think 20-10 or 21-9 seems fair...if he returns for conference play I think 22-23 wins then.

Either way I expect a tourney appearance this year.

Jmo.

If he returns in january he should be in both UK games...are you thinking he's gone into February or March? At that point might as well redshirt him.

Would be difficult to have limited activity, especially basketball timing required, for several months, then come compete in the SEC.
I wouldn't expect him back if he is totally inactive right now, and we don't want maymon limping around and passive. We need the real maymon, and if its next year, its next year.

That's been my thought process.

If he's totally inactive now and it's late December before he can practice 100% then its likely late January before he's ready to really play in a game.

At that point I'd rather he redshirt and just come out next year 100% and ready to go...could be a special team.

On a side note...no media guys (Quinn or Lewis) are making redshirt sound likely say they've heard nothing about it. Seems like they'd realize if he's not even conditioning or practicing that he's a good ways away from seeing time in a SEC game.
