Who heard of Butch Jones and thought... "that's it, I'm done"

I couldn't believe Charlie Strong said no, and we suddenly hired someone from Cincinnati, it just seemed like a panic hire.

I'm a bout to flip a coin, heads... A&M tails.... South Carolina. Not sure why, it was just the first two teams that came to mind.

Until something interesting happened. I read. I found out who the man hands we just placed our beloved University in. Afterwards, I love the hire. I wanted Strong so bad, to find out Jones is out-recruiting Strong. Statistically, very impressive. You want a guy who can win anywhere he goes? So far, he has.

I can go on and on but you've already heard it. Everyone in the nation is very impressed with the hire EXCEPT Vols fans. I can understand that, we have been through so much as a fan base.

I'm not the only one who did exactly what I did in the past 24 hours. I say we get board, the more I learn the more I like Jones. You want a coach with a proven record? You got one. Go Vols

How about calling him "The Butcher" so "Davis" is not used? I do it at times too.
****I see you made the correction after i posted above from "Davis" to "Jones"****

The more that I see and learn about Butch Jones, the happier I get about this hire.

I think a lot of people will calm down the further away we get from the coach search process; especially if we land anything resembling a decent recruiting class.

I'm not lying, it's what I've been hearing. On the radio, on TV, they really like what Jones brings to Knoxville.

I really hope you're right GA. Unfortunately, some people just aren't ever going to be satisfied. I know people who were upset when we won the NC, because they said it meant we would be stuck with Fulmer. The legions of the miserable, I guess.

i think this staff will be blazing the recruiting trail much like i remember the Kiffin staff doing. those guys lived recruiting. Jones is no dummy. he knows his legacy starts or stops here.

Taking Gruden off the table, Charlie Strong was my #1 most wanted guy. His SEC experience and success as DC at Florida under Meyer carried a lot weight with me along with what he's building at Louisville. I was truly hurt when he rejected our offer and I hope Florida puts the beating of his life on him in the Sugar Bowl!

Having said that, BJ is now our coach and therefore I support him until he no longer is! I loved hearing him say that UT was his dream job! Kind of nice hearing someone say that about OUR University for a change!

What was Urban Meyer's ranking in recruiting while coaching Utah versus his efforts at UF and OSU? Would you consider him a poor recruiter based on his stats with the Utes?

Believe it or not, the school and conference actually matter too.

Urban never had to recruit at Florida or OSU. They just show up and sign on the dotted line.:loco:

I just don't understand how Fedora and Strong would've been considered decent hires but Jones isn't. At first I thought he was a horrible choice too, but after doing some ACTUAL RESEARCH, he is basically the same as Fedora and an O version of Strong. Strong was 24-14 in the same Big East as Jones was 23-14 in and Jones has a 2-1 record against Strong. Fedora on the other hand was 22-17 in his first 3 years in an even weaker conference and Jones was 27-13 in his first 3 years as a head coach. Also look at their winning percentages
Fedora has a .646
Strong has a .615
Jones has a .649
So Jones has the highest winning percentage and has been a HC 2 years longer than Fedora and 3 year longer than Strong.

So for those of you that would've been happy with or could've dealt with Strong or Fedora but are disappointed by the Jones hiring you need to stop listening to the idiot masses and media and go do some actual research. We may have gotten the best of those 3 and possibly even the best of all the SEC hires this cycle. Only time will tell for sure but I like our odds knowing what he's actually accomplished compared to what UK and the Barn got in only hoping their coaches can get it done. And while Arky got a decent coach I'm not sold on the fact that he can get it done in the SEC.

I have no doubt that you have a taste for losing with that negative, defeatist attitude.

People complained about Dooley because he'd never produced a consistently winning program. So then UT hires a guy who's had one losing season in 6 to go with 4 conference championships.... he's a proven winner and guys like you still complain. You might as well grow up and resign yourself to giving the guy a shot. He's going to be UT's coach for at least a couple of years and probably 3 or 4.

FWIW, he speaks like a leader and is known as a "player's coach". That should work well for him AND make him different from other SEC coaches.

I am not on board, but bring in a good DC and bring back Tee and I will get a little more on board. Keep Pitman and Graham and will feel much better

What I liked the most was he talked about building a system to fit the talent we have. Dooley on the other hand talked about his system and getting players to buy into and work HIS system. Thats why Dooley failed as a coach and I have faith CBJ will succeed. CBJ will mold A system to fit the talent he actually has instead of forcing HIS system on players that don't fit or work in that system.

Agreed! This, along with his "open door" policy with former players were my 2 favorite things he talked about. I like his confidence about assembling the "best staff in the country." Big words! I hope they become fact!
